Re: fuel tank removal

i have a cinq, and i started by:

1. reversing it up onto ramps

2. drain the tank

3. removed the bottom of the rear seat for ease

4. removed metal panel protecting fuel pump

5. removed the pipes and plugs to the tank (leaving the fuel pump in)

6. then went underneith the car and removed pipes (just held on by clamps easy removed)

7. then i attempted to unbolt it, but all but one bolt snapped (there are two bolts and the rear of the tank either side and two bolts at the front of the tank in the centre, one was holding my exhaust heat sheild)

optional: you can lower/remove your exhaust for ease of removing

(all i did is remove it of its rubbers and lowered it to the floor)

8. remove the tank

If your bolts snapped like mine, you can drill them out and use your own nuts bolts and washers

hope that helps

Re: fuel tank removal

If thi sis a second hand tank you are going to remove, before removing, check the seam around the tank is not 'crunchie'

You wouldn't want to spend time removing a knackered tank.

Specialist online retailers will help you get a new one.

Cheers

Yes I wouldn't bother with a s/h tank.

A new one is only about 70

Re: fuel tank removal

yeah much as above, just done this job on mine last week, one of the bolts to a bracket on the rear beam snapped on removal, easy to fix as there is an extra mounting hole in the bracket on the beam

I drained my tank as follows, I removed the fuel feed to the SPI unit, and extended it to reach containers at the front of the car, then I added a 12v feed to the green wire of the fuel pump, this gets the pump pumping and you can fill up your containers/empty the tank until the pump wont pick anything else up

Upon dropping the tank from the car, there may be up 4L left in it

Getting the pump assembly out from the tank was awkward, until I removed the twist off level sender first, found it odd that there were bare electrical connections in the tank/on the pump

Refit tank and use a new fuel filter as theres every chance it will have filled with particles of rust from the tank walls
