Okay, so i'm going to buy the parts that i need for the conversion tomorrow and hopefully post some pics in the process.
EDIT: This is on a Sei MPI.

As far as i know, i'll need:
-uno turbo rear hubs
-uno turbo mounting plates
-uno turbo rear calipers
-uno turbo rear disks

Anything else apart from that? Is it a good idea to get calipers from a scrappy (which i intend to do)? Is it a good idea to get the disks from the scrapyard as well or would it be better to buy new ones? Will i need any new brake hoses, and what to look for? How much oil can the thing take when replacing all the oil? :D

Trust me, i've searched the forum and all, but would be great just to have someone confirm all that.

Thanks in advance!!! :slayer:

the easiest thing to do with the hoses is to get a pair of 60cm stainless steel flexys to join the solid pipe on the underside of the car to the caliper. there are other (argueabley better) ways of doing it - but it involves more faff.

you'll need some brake pads too, obivously :p

i wouldn't fit scrap yard pads or discs.

i have also never done the conversion using the UT hubs, mine has custom brackets and 240mm discs. aaron (j33EVO) has fitted UT hubs etc before, so i'd say he's the man to ask.

I'd certainly get new pads, new disks unless the ones in the scrappy are without wear (rust can be cheaply bead blasted off).

Calipers can vary from perfectly useable to need a full rebuild. If your not confident enough to do a full rebuild yourself, it's cheaper to buy new calipers (but not from FIAT!) than pay for them to be done.

i should be fine rebuilding them, it shouldn't take much time (i think, never done it, but i have some general knowledge about what needs to be done)

So, i'll go for scrappy calipers and new pads (thanks, arc :)) and disks.
How exactly do you connect the flexi stuff, using a crimp (edit: or a clamp, or some special connector?) of some sort? (a pic would be useful :D)
Do you know the diameter of the tubing necessary?

Thanks for the replies (especially as it's after midnight now :D)

I've bought them today, they seem to be in a very good shape, but will need one rubber thing replaced (not sure how it's called in English). Gonna take some pics and see if i can start working on them tomorrow.

(luckily!?) my head gasket seems to be dying (oil leaking from the engine and it's losing water), so i'll be doing an engine swap sooner than i thought, but that's a different subject :D

allanhelen: Thanks for the kind offer, but i'm outside of the UK, so it'd be probably more expensive to buy them second hand from you than to buy it new here.

Okay, i'm going to buy new rear disks for the UT tomorrow. That shouldn't be a big problem.

However, i'm not sure which brake hoses i should buy. Is there a certain diameter i need (sei mpi brake lines to UT brake caliper), how do i connect the two hoses and stuff :D

For now you can just bend the steel pipes to reach the flex hose from the UT (if you got them with the calipers) this is how i have mine (for now)

did you need the rear hubs? when i fitted my rears I noticed there identical to my (95)cinq. you need a 5mm spacers like on the front of the cinq as the disk is thinner then a drum

the scrappy guy told me that i didn't need the hubs, so i didn't get them off him (i guess he'd sell me those if he wanted to, eh? :)), but i'll buy them if neccesary.
So the steel pipe can be joined to the flex hose on the calipers with no modifications (apart from bending them a little)?

I guess i'll need to have spacers fabricated then, thanks for the info. I'll definitely buy new flexi hoses (i don't want to trust used ones on that) and new disks and pads.

Just find another cinq or sei sporting and remove the spacers from the front wheels. i think they are 3mm and exactly the size of spacer you need.
I ran for a while without the spacers and when i found some and fitted them, the car felt the same.

When I get round to it i will get hoses made to go from the solid pipe up by the tank directly to the caliper. not much point in having 2 flex imho
Ill get a pic for you in a min(y)

ouch.
so then, while i know some stuff, i'm a complete newbie at hydraulic piping... i don't even know the kind of "connector" needed at the end of a pipe/hose... would it be possible to use two flexy hose connected in series, so as to get a longer hose (that would require no bending of the steel pipes)

If i'm getting a custom hose done, what diameter do i ask for? what connectors does it need to have on the ends?

here you go! I used the first original clip (one on top of the arm) then bend it up from the bottom on keeping the bends smooth and cable tie it to keep it secure. that should stop it cracking (y)

thanks! okay, i'm getting a grasp of this :D
so i'll either need to bend the pipe like you did (doesn't _look_ unsafe, i wonder what happened to that adz1982 guy and his car), or i'll need to go to a place that does pipes and show them the original flexi pipe and ask for it to be X cm longer (will have to measure that)
Any idea what pressure should the pipes be able to withstand (in bar)

edited to add: craig, is your car riding a bumpstop there with those apexes? :)

just bend everything so the theres not much stress on them. the caliper dont move much at all so it should be ok. hes might of been bent to many times or just weak with rust.
as for the flexi pipe. take the UT one with you and ask for an extended one.
I would get it all the way to the solid pipe near the tank.
dont worry about pressure. a brake line is a brake line they will know more then us. best go for braided lines.
I paid 15each for my fronts at a place who sell all hoses for everything. stainless ends and fully pressure tested.(y)

Almost on the bump stops me thinks! my drive is slopped so when I go on it forword and put the handbrake on it rear squats down. bump stops do need cutting tho (n)

great, thanks :)

Do you happen to know how much brake fluid the system takes, and if it's dot4 or dot5 (i admit i didn't search the forum, so if i don't get any reply on this in a few days, i'll just search for it :))

thanks for all the info.

seems like the whole operation will take a few days longer than i thought, but oh well :D

I'll probably go and buy the disks and pads tomorrow and will need those hoses custom made. Luckily, my dad knows a guy who does those, so it shouldn't be too hard :)
