Hi all,

I'm about to get the timing belt changed on my '98 1.4 Bravo. The old belt and tensioner are 5 years old (but have done only 10k miles).

My question is, does the tensioner "age" through time like the belt does or is it only affected by miles? I expect to do another 5 years / 10k miles before my next belt change.

Caution says change the lot, but economy says it's £140 vs £190!

Any advice appreciated.

Hmmm... if the tensioner change is less than £50 for labour and parts I'd say just do the belt.

But as I seriously doubt that I'd change everything you can in one job, might even change the water pump TBH.

Thats exactly the surgery my 3 yer old 1.9 diesel Grande is having on Sept 28th, £268 all in inc the Aux drive belt and fresh coolant. (y)

Seriously... why risk it for £50?

You will probably get away with just doing the belt, but if you don't you are down big money and up a lot of grief.:(

I say bite the bullet, do it right. Then you won't be spending every moment you are driving worrying about whether you made the right decision.:)

Thanks for the replies. I've just realised that when I changed the belt last time, they only did the belt, so the tensioner is 11 years old now. That makes my choice easier! I'll get the full kit.
