Tuning 1.6 hlx dyno chart.

It not a Bosch ECU, it's a marelli.

What I have found so far, after contacting loads of people, is that there were two specs of ECU.

The early ECU (pre 98 I believe) is flash mappable, the later models (like mine) are not, so need a piggyback.

It's booked in for Wednesday next week. So expect an update on Wednesday evening.

Well, finally the car is back to going well.

The Dastek Unichip has been fitted and mapped.

After the origional tune of cams and head work, the car had lost 4bhp and the torque was down right through the revrange. The unichip has sorted that now, and has got plenty back everywhere.

Note - two different dynos, so the graphs dont tally up on power outputs.

Apparently the ignition needed plenty of advance to get this result.

i wouldve thought u had a lot more extra power with everything u had done. what exhaust system and airflow u running?

iv just swapped my full straight through system for a powerflow kit and the car seems to drive alot better

Craig can I ask who did the original work? Do you have any photos of what was done?

rich

Still running theorigional exhaust system, air comes in through the standard airbox with a K&N filter.

What's a powerflo system?

I don't have photo's of what was done. They guy who did the motor work is a friend of mine, who owns a car race tuning company called SMD racing. I guess I could do with a better exhaust system and better airbox to make the most of everything alse now. Moneys tight at the moment though.

can i ask did you end up going with redline tuning?

as for the exhaust, would definatly recomend another system maybe a custom one, i got mine from exhaustUK in sheffield had 3 from them now on different cars and cant recomend them enough. i would also recomend another airbox i think the standered one is very limited in terms of drawing air ive had a pipercross viper that were very good and gave a vast improvement in throttle response, a friend had the bmc cda that too was just as good i believe shaun has the cda on his 1.6.

yeh as furry said iv got the bmc cda kit on mine. and asfor the powerflow, its suppose to be a really good exhaust system. i swapped my straight through pipe for it and it seems to be tones better with the extra back preasure

this is my engine bay

it has a pipe running discretely tot he mesh of the front bumper

I have seen that supersprint do an exhaust manifold to replace the standard one.

One if the things I thought was very poor on the origional set up is the manifold. The stock manifold looks like it will flow very badly.

I like the idea of keeping a standard exhaust system, but am tempted to replace the manifold up to the Cat.

Is the BMC airbox loud? I dont want a noist car. Fasy and quiet is what i'm looking for.

iv got the supersprint on mine, alot better flow, but all of this does make the car a little load, but only when u boot it

here is a video of my rolling road:
