Does anyone know how long it takles to charge a car battery? I have the battery in the hallway so its off the car and also its switched to fast charge. Is it best to switch to normal charge? Just wondering how long it usually takes to give the battery and full and good charge?
The problem i had,car been off road for bout 3 month,I jump started it off my polo.left it runnin for while and went around the bloack a few times so engine was nice and warm but i cudnt leave it running for ages as there was hardly any fuel left in it..I went to start it up this morning and it fired up once then died and now the batt is flat.Well i can get ignition lights on dash but there not enough power to start the car.Hence the reason borrowing the neighbours charger.Im also hoping my battery or alternator arnt on their way out.(Ill be back using the car as from tomoz so im hoping the car should be fine once fully charged

If the battery is a maintenance free or low maintenance type, it should be charged on low trickle charge for at least 24 hours. If it's an old style top up battery you can fast charge it.

Charge it in a well ventilated area (not in your hallway). The battery will give off explosive hydrogen gas whilst charging.

If you allowed the battery to go flat for more than a few weeks whilst it was off the road for 3 months, it will never fully recover.

Dave.

it is an old style top up battery yer.How long do you think itll take to fast chareg, whats the best recommended length of time? Its been on fast charge for 2.5hrs now.It started off with a really quiet buzzin, now its at the normal buzzin tone.Been told bout 3 hours shud do it?

car is fine now.I put the battery back on the car yesterday about 5pm,started up straight away.i left it to warm up then went for a few laps round block. The ecu light did go out but soon as i left my driveway,it came back on.I thought the ecu wud have been reset?
Anyway,i went back out to car bout hour ago and it fired up with no slow turning :) went out for drive again so its all good :)
Just hope that it does keep its charge as cant afford to fork out on a battery at mo .

Mike

sounds like u have a dead cell in the battery time to replace it ,battery dont like sitting for a few months once there dead they never take a good charge again or die very quick afterwards

hi mate,if thats the case ill keep my eye on it.i have to admit i have jump started it 2wce in the past aswell..Ive been in the car all day today (and it ran ok) as i taxed it online.I went to start it this morning to use it,and it fired up straight away :)
