front end noise

I have a new problem now. when driving slowly over a small dip or bump I get a clunk from the right side front wheel. everything seems tight and I hear nothing when I spin the wheel in neutral ball joint seems good. strut also seems tight

Re: front end noise

Have you checked the anti roll bar bushes? They are cheap and easy to change...

Mine does this occasionally, too, but it's never been picked up on an MOT test.

Re: front end noise

Could be brake calliper rattle.

One way to check / eliminate this is to gently apply the brake pedal an see if the noise goes away?

An MOT would not pick up on this.

Re: front end noise

But that's a rattle, not a clunk!

Re: front end noise

it appears that I was mistaken, according to my wife that is not uncommon ,moving on, it happened again today on an Italian Car Ride, in Milton ,and it felt like it was under the floor behind my seat. so now I surmise there is movement at the rear trailing arm bushes.so another parts shipment from the UK. yup

Thumbs up Re: front end noise

Yes sounds as if that is it. I had the same for some time before realising where the noise was coming from. The inner one of the two bearing had rusted and broken. Whilst under the car (and whilst I still remembered how to do it) decided to do both swing arms.
Reasonably easy job and spares kits easily obtained.

Re: front end noise

Maybe that's where my intermittent clunk is coming from! Thanks, guys!

Re: front end noise

Definitely useful mine clunks at low speed as well, at first I thought it was the spare wheel not fixed down properly, but that didn't solve it, seems to come from the rear on mine. It's a definite think. Mostly only on slow bumps. Cheers.

Re: front end noise

The rear T/A bushes on my car failed, bought the replacement kit. But actually when I tried to repair. The bolt that goes through the sub-frame and trailing arm had completely seized, the bearings had collapsed and no way could I extract the long bolt.thr only way I could remove was by cutting the bolt off with an angle grinder. Not an easy job.
Ended up buying a replacement trailing arm assembly. At the time not so expensive.
So my advice is get it sorted as soon as you can, usage will only make it harder to remove.
