The reason I ask, is I was trying to trace a knock from the right front somewhere and noticed play in the door when I lift it.....on closer inspection the top bolt is missing! Might not be the source of the knock, but probably a good idea to have a bolt in there!

Lightbulb Re: Door hinge bolts

Could the bolt have come loose and fell off somewhere where it keeps rattling or knocking? That might be your problem.

Re: Door hinge bolts

Hi just looking on eper at item 4, it looks like the bolts are welded to the hinge and are fastened with item 7 nut.
I presume this is what you meant.
Best Dave

Re: Door hinge bolts

Hi Dave,

Thanks for looking

Not quite, there are two long vertical bolts (top and bottom) the door rotates on when you open it. According to the workshop manual these are taken out when the door is removed.

When I get home I'll look at the workshop manual again, I think there might be a list of bolts and torque settings at the back somewhere.

I've suspicion the bolt wasn't put back in after some work was done on that door, but I don't know. If it fell out it would probably just fall on the floor next time to door was opened....

Cheers

Mike

Re: Door hinge bolts

O wow Mike, if one of those bolts is missing I'm thinking your door would be really sagging.
When I stripped a Barchetta the top hinge had a nut at the bottom, the lower hinge a nut at the top. But I think both bolts were fixed items. Again I could be wrong.
I've just looked through the collection of bolts from that strip and can't see any hinge pins.
Sorry I can't help further.

Question Re: Door hinge bolts

Thanks Dave,
Oddly the door fits well, just a couple of mm free play (rattle) when I lift it, so there must some additional positive location going on. They look like bolts in real life and the workshop manual, perhaps they screw into an insert?

Can't find any data though, so I'll take the other side out when I get chance to have a measure

Re: Door hinge bolts

Just pretty standard M6 x25 high tensile bolts in the end, they screw into the pin and perhaps expand it....the door doesn't just fall off without it! Anyway put a new bolt in and the free play in the door has gone

Re: Door hinge bolts

Good you have sorted, but they sound like different hinges to the ones fitted to my car.
