My 2016 500X has done a mere 14,500 miles but on its third year service/MOT was issued with an advisory for pitted/scored rear brake discs. I've sourced some Brembo replacements, but am currently struggling to track down a service manual for the car.

So, anybody replaced the rear discs and can provide guidance as to how (as in, any differences to other cars)? Or, one better, got a service manual for a 2016 500X?

It's pretty much the same as any other car there will be two bolt's half the caliper to the carrier remove these then two bolt's likely e torx to take the carrier/frame out then the retaining bolt on the disc

You will however need a diagnostic computer such as multiecuscan to unlock the calipers to wind the pistons back due to the electronic handbrake

Although new discs on a 14.5k car is surprising? I think we are still on original rears and they are fine. I know some have had issues with scoring from the Electronic Handbrake release.....

A service manual you will not find I'm afraid unless:

1) You can obtain/purchase/borrow a KeyLearn USB stick which Fiat have discontinued some time ago. These are sought after but those who have them are not willing to part with them for obvious reasons - See 2)

2) You can register and subscribe to ON-LINE data but this is expensive. Can be done by time (e.g. 1 Hour/24Hours/Month/Year) but not cheap

I'm surprised you have issues at 14.5k miles. Are you coast located with annual high salt vapour content? If so I would have expected to front discs to be similarly affected.

I'm convinced the rear discs are a crap material, I complained about mine but it fell on deaf ears, I know it's a different car but still FCA, lots of Giulia owners have had rear discs replaced on warranty for the same reason, I wonder if they did that just to keep the owners happy after shelling out 40k, funny how you've been advised this after your warranty has run out.

If it was a mot advisory likely nothing to do with fiat don't really think many main dealer's do the not themselves?
So it was just the testors opinion

True I didn't read the post well enough, mine looked pitted and scored after 14 months and 12k not great quality really and the dealer had little interest in investigating other than giving me 6 possibilities why which I could all dismiss, oh maybe it's sat for a few days, maybe you should put more weight in the back and a load of other nonsense. It hasn't gotten significantly worse and will just get my mechanic to do the rear discs when the pads are shot,

Quite a common issue on modern cars, apparently Skodas in particular suffer from it. The rear brakes don't get used enough to "clean up".
One complication of changing rear discs could be releasing the electric parking brake, if it has one.

I'm also surprised about having the scoring on the rear discs at only 14.5k miles, and it's rather disappointing to be honest. The front discs are absolutely fine, so I also surmise it may be due to the electronic handbrake. I live in Cardiff, which is coastal, but we don't get high salt levels and the like, just wet.

The MOT was actually done at the dealer, at the same time as service. However they firmly view discs as consumables and won't budge on replacement.

Going to look at multiecuscan, or if that fails it'll go down the local garage and I'll provide them with the discs and pads.
