1.6 petrol is an old tech engine. Been around a while, I wouldn't really bother buying a brand new car/model etc with an old style engine.

The most popular engine in the 500 (in the UK at least) has been the 1.2 8v, and by a long shot too. I don't think you should automatically rule out dinosaur engines for new cars
The whole point of this thread is to provide advice to the OP about what car to buy. As far as I can tell, not one person on this thread has ever driven the petrol 1.6 E-Torq (but happy to be proved wrong). It could be a peach of a motor in the 500X, on the other hand it might be absolutely dreadful?
That's the big uncertainty that the OP faces, regardless of our opinions as to whether it may or may not be any good.
