1.6 petrol is an old tech engine. Been around a while, I wouldn't really bother buying a brand new car/model etc with an old style engine.

Woah, hang about:)

The most popular engine in the 500 (in the UK at least) has been the 1.2 8v, and by a long shot too. I don't think you should automatically rule out dinosaur engines for new cars(y)

The whole point of this thread is to provide advice to the OP about what car to buy. As far as I can tell, not one person on this thread has ever driven the petrol 1.6 E-Torq (but happy to be proved wrong:)). It could be a peach of a motor in the 500X, on the other hand it might be absolutely dreadful?

That's the big uncertainty that the OP faces, regardless of our opinions as to whether it may or may not be any good.

Dinosaur Engine.."a person or thing that is outdated or has become obsolete because of failure to adapt to changing circumstances"....just saying??

1.2 8v in a little 500 is a bit different to the 1.6 in the 500x.

Well only if it is true that the 1.6 e-Torq is completely unsuited for use in the 500X. But seeing as you or I have no idea how it drives on the road then it is impossible to say.

Anyway, we are going round in circles. At least we both agree that it is hard to recommend the 1.6 e-Torq at this stage...albeit for different reasons!)

I think @PandaLounge has a 500X PopStar with the 1.6 eTorq engine. Essentially it's the entry engine, so I wouldn't expect miracles. However Fiat do have a habit of making engines which look rather ordinary on paper, perform quite well in the real-world, so you never know.

I'd not order one without driving it though. Unfortunately it's an engine which is only used in the 500X and Jeep Renegade so there's not a wealth of options in terms of trying it in other models either.

Ditto most of the above :)
I drove both 1.6 e-torq and the 1.4 MA Petrol engines.

OMG - My opinion - the 1.4 MultiAir was leagues above :)

Hence I opted for 1.4MA PopStar, with different 17", Black Rear Windows, in Silver.
And I love it :)
(Coming from a 1.4 77bhp Jet Black Punto - it's a whole new world ;) )
