Many years ago I fitted an amplifier under the front passenger’s seat in my 2010 FIAT 500, powering all the speakers, plus a slimline subwoofer under the driver’s seat with its own built-in amp.

The only slight problem this created was a whine from the speakers (audible when volume was low) in time with the Dualogic pump cutting in. I guess you could describe it as a quiet buzz/whizzing sound for the few seconds the pump would run for. The amplifier, which was connected to high-level inputs (speaker wires) seemed to be picking up the noise from the power supply, so in order to solve it, I added a high-current noise filter (a kind of choke) to the power wire into the amplifier.

Anyway, fast-forward seven years and I notice exactly the same sound in my Abarth 500C with Interscope, when the MTA/Competizione Gearbox pump cuts in. Obviously, the manufacturers didn’t bother to solve it as I had done

Has anyone else with Interscope and Dualogic or MTA noticed this sound (perhaps when the radio is turned off) and attempted to eliminate it? I’m thinking perhaps a suppression capacitor across the pump motor itself might be a good idea. The pump is, after all, turned on and off by a relay, so an added capacitor shouldn’t affect the Selespeed ECU. It’s probably easier than adding a noise filter to the amplifier.

If the amplifier is separate you could splice in a ground loop isolator ?

Yes; I was wondering if anyone else has, given that they probably all do it?
I suppose ‘enthusiasts’ start by ripping out all the standard equipment, and anyone that’s not an enthusiast perhaps hasn’t noticed the funny whizzing noise. Maybe there aren’t that many Dualogic/MTA-equipped 500s also fitted with Interscope.
