General Are Euro 6 1.2's Any Good

For me, a fun car must be one that handles well. I cannot have fun in a Fiat 500 when I am worried of pushing its very low limits and crashing or losing control.

Regarding the potholes, I meant that its relatively high ride height makes it much better than a Mini or another lower car (most cars are lower unless you are talking SUV's). The bounces and rolls add to the, as you put it, 'fun' Italian experience!

I used to own a 2.5 ton Range Rover classic diesel many years ago. No roll anti bars fixed axels and definitely not fast but my god was it fun to drive around town the handling was awful but hilarious.

Pushing the limits of any car is fun, your argument about not having fun if the car isn't powerful might well be the same argument a supercar owner would make about any standard BMW or Audi

well no its like the Toyota 86 is described as fun and it has less power than the Golf Gti!!
I had a lot of fun in the BMW 116d, I easily managed to drift it with ESP off on the damp UK roads and it barely has more power than my 1.4 Fiat 500, only like 15 hp more!

No offence, but if you feel unsafe in a 500, you're either a shockingly bad driver, or you drive like a complete prat! Granted, I've not driven a 500, but as long as I drive according to the type of road and the conditions, at no point do I feel I'm about to lose control of my likewise FWD Grande Punto.

i get it very well you just are too biased. FWD is cheaper and simpler than RWD, which is one of the main reasons why car manufacturers prefer it, costs them less money.

Again, you're talking out of your rear passage. I recall seeing an article written by an experienced road tester, in which he stated that with improvements in suspension and tyre design, RWD has become redundant in cars with less than approximately 300bhp. As I've already mentioned, even BMW, the car manufacturer most committed to RWD is now building a FWD car: the 2-Series Active Tourer.

The road tester is not a good one!

The 2 series is indeed fwd but that's a school run car where you don't need rwd it's an mpv! So I agree with BMW there

The one we have is ok once it has set off and got above 2000rpm.Dont rate the brakes either for brisk driving. If we ever got another it would have to have more power and rear discs.Abarth maybe.

So that must mean you're deliberately choosing to ignore the context. Weird.

I'm biased! It's not me that's blinkered wrt fwd vs. Rwd. I know exactly what a 500 is and its not a sporting car. I've never said otherwise.

So you can drift a 116 (quite possibly one of the worst BMW's and they produce some real dogs, X5 and 6 being top of the list of tat marketed at half wits along with a few gems, M3/5) yippy. I can drift a Transit van, that doesn't mean it's any good.

A fwd can NEVER be faster than a rwd. Seriously? A completely ridiculous statement.

Russ, put some Bilsteins on your 500 and you will have a laughably good car which is well suited to your windy little commute :) Mine is sensational nowadays. I live in LL19 btw :)

The 1.2's brakes are just fine, the issue is the completely useless pads you get as standard.

Mine has Brembo pads and they're lovely. I've never had any issues with the brakes, but when I'm driving quick I don't use them much!

Yes I think I had seen a post where you spoke about B4's?

Do you have them all round or just on the rear?

It's on a PCP deal so I need to be a little careful about what I do to it. Rear looks like a morning's job so it would be easy to revert back to standard. Front a little more tricky I guess.

It's the rear that feels under damped but I don't like the idea of a front / rear miss match.

I'd noticed the Welsh Riviera, the Llyn is idyllic though(y)

My 500S has upgraded alloys and perversely, despite it's sporting pretensions, doesn't actually drive as well as my wife's Lounge. Greater unsprung weight I guess.

I have B14's. You could just do rears with the b8's which are the same dampers, but I'd want to di all 4 corners.

The road tester is not a good 1? That bloke makes his living road testing all sorts of cars, and his opinion was based on driving various cars on the road. Please tell me, what do you do for a living?

With regards to the 2-Series Active Tourer, do you really think that BMW would design a whole new platform for just 1 car? Doesn't that potentially mean that there could be more FWD cars bearing the BMW badge?

Usually unless a car is something special like a Bugatti or the next Ferrari the general rule of reviewing anything, especially if you do it for a living is to slate it. Doesn't apply in all cases but compared to other cars in the same category it's not the worst but it's not the best.

The 2 series uses the same platform as the new Mini Cooper and is designed for front and 4 wheel drive cars, so don't expect more front wheel drives from BMW at the moment

Alfa are returning to rwd after a long gap since the 75. For an engaging drive it's hard to beat a well set up transaxle car for sheer balance and handling.

The question isn't 'are front wheel drives more fun than rear wheel drives or any combination of rwd verses fwd

The question is are euro 6 500s are fun to drive, why do these posts go so ridiculously off topic !?

Indeed! I think we all agree, apart from our Greek friend perhaps, that they are fun to drive and can be made more fun by enhancing the suspension.

i have enhanced the suspension merkey, and it makes the car feel even more scary due to the higher cornering speeds. it really exposes the short wheelbase now!

Because we let the village idiot dictate the flow of discussion on the forum :)

sounds like fun to me:D

A short wheel base, narrow track width and high centre of gravity......

SERIOUSLY HOW CAN YOU NOT FIND THAT FUN!

You scare to easily!
