Hi,

I have driven my wife's 1.2 lounge (10 plate) over the past few days and have noticed a rattle. When pulling away there is a rattle from the front which sounds like the bonnet stay is loose. I have checked and found nothing obvious. Does anybody have an idea what may be causing this.

Thanks

Wayne

Loose aux belt perhaps ? I hear that noise a lot.

Yes, we had this and it turned out to be a loose black-plastic air-intake duct, which attaches to the slam panel with a single Allen-type screw. Remove the screw, apply thread-lock adhesive and re-tighten. A simple cure if your problem is the same as ours!

Good luck,

Kev.

My daughter now has our 09 1.2 Panda. When we had it and it had just been in for its second service I noticed, when the window was down, that there was a chatter when pulling away and also that with the clutch pedal up and in neutral the gear box had started to rattle. Once I had noticed these things I also noticed that the gear box had had become whiny as well. I checked the gear box oil and found that it was very low and topped it up. We went in to the dealership to have a grumble and was told that they don't check the oil until 48,000

. The car would have been well out of guarantee by the time we reached this mileage. I did put a post on the Forum at the time, 'Low gear box oil', and comments said this was very common. The outcome was that the rattle disappeared and the whine slowly went. The little car is still going strong and doing its job.

Interesting point, David...I will check ours at the first opportunity.
Also, I would be concerned as to where the oil is going - a leak sufficiently severe from a gearbox to require a substantial top-up would show up easily and could indicate urgent oil-seal repairs. Or maybe it was under-filled from new, these things do slip through the net occasionally.

Hi Kev,

I had a look yesterday and it was the air intake. Thanks for the help.
