I've had my 10plate 500 just over 3 weeks and i got a phone call for it to go in for a safety recall, the woman on the phone didnt tell me what it was for or anything so i booked it in and when i collected it i asked them what it was for, and apparently the side airbags are going off after the others on impact, has anyone else been called up for this recall as i cant see anything about the recall on the VOSA website?

Just wondered if it was stoneacre having me on again

I got a safety recall for this yesterday from VOSA. Took it straight down to the dealer. They said it's just a precaution, very small number of cars affected but we'll have a look.

Anyway an hour later I went back, it did have the airbag fault but they'd mended it and washed and hoovered him for me while they were at it.

I don't get how this thread is months old though and I only got my letter yesterday, unless this a new occurence of a similar fault?

VOSA can take ages to send out safety recalls - the thread is old as it was started by people who had letters from their dealers.....they've probably just been sent the same VOSA letter as you this week!

thats a bit worrying then! My car had the fault and I've been driving round in it all this time.

Here is the text from VOSA

The steering column upper shaft fixing bolt may not have had thread locking agent applied to it during assembly. This may allow it to come loose causing a noise. In extreme cases this may result in a loss of steering control.
As with most recalls, they generally work in a 'could possibly'. It is likely that there hasn't been a single accident because of the possible fault but obviously anything with even the smallest of risks means the manufacturer will recall batches of cars to be safe.

My Punto had a similar recall last year - number of actual accidents caused was zero. If you look through the VOSA website you will see hundreds of recalls for every manufacturer each year.......almost none of them are anything to worry about (but need to be attended to anyway).

I hope this eases any worry.

(y) Good to see this kind of post, a lot of people posting on the 500 forum aren't as sensible and like to whip up hysteria and make things seem worse than they are....

Prime example of people crapping themselves for no good reason.

Re Thumpers steering issue. My pals car went in for the airbag recall and mentioned steering at the time . Turns out major steering problem involving both the column and the motor . Dealer was unable to identify reason for problem and Fiat have had to be consulted to assist them, and now new parts will take a week to come from abroad (Italy or Poland ?). Courtesy car has been provided.
