General New 95 hp diesel engine

Not sure it's quite out yet as it's not showing on FIATs UK configurator, nor on fiat500.com's configurator.

One of the regular contributors, Scrogg (hi), has it in his sig that it is coming soon.

I'm looking forward to giving one a go as my 75bhp 1.3Mjet can't half shift when i press the loud pedal.

We have 500C 95BHP Lounge on order.

Being built this week delivery mid-March.

The car is on Fiat UK configurator.

Currently have 1.2 Sport looking forward to extra power and torque!!:)

mine is due in 2 weeks but im on holiday cant wait !!!!!!
but the garage is reg the car on april fools day ? is that goin to be the oman lol if anyone gets one sooner please let me know what its like (y)

The car is on Fiat UK configurator.

All the configurator shows is the 1.3Mjet - it doesn't quote power output which is why I thought it was the 75bhp one. Actually digging into the bumf shows it to now be 95bhp across the Pop, Sport and Lounge.

Currently have 1.2 Sport looking forward to extra power and torque!!:)

My 75bhp one doesn't half shift so careful you don't start seeing 3 puntos

on your driving licence :D

It'll be good, no doubt. The current 75bhp diesel is already the pick of the 500 crop, so the new version will no doubt be superb.
Ignore all the nonsense some spew out about the heavier diesel engine causing terrible understeer - it's utter twaddle.

:ROFLMAO:

Yeah the pick of the crop. If you want to be going in for an oil change every 6 months, lovely if you like a noisy clutch, if you want to have to to go for an extra drive each Friday night to unclog the DPF and if you want your oil level to RISE between services it's just PERFECT!!!!!

If the diseasel was so great why do most people choose the 1.2 petrol? :ROFLMAO:

People buy the 1.2 because it's the cheapest on the forecourt, obviously!!
I've run my 500 diesel for almost a year now, and during that time I've not needed an oil change, not experienced any "noisy clutch", haven't taken any "extra drive each Friday night to unclog the DPF" and have not experienced any form of rising oil levels!

However, I have experienced easy 65-70mpg runs, plenty of torque to punt me up hills without a downchange, easy overtaking ability and high-speed cruising without revving the guts out of it!

Now remind me, how many of these diesel engines have fiat built now? Is it 2 million? And how many 500s have been fitted with diesel units? And how many have you known to experience problems? A handfull? That's hardly a problem now, is it?

Shame on you for spreading this alarmist claptrap!

It's not alarmist claptrap, numerous people have encountered these issues. Out of all the engines fitted to the Panda the 1.3 MJ is the one people seem to have the most problems with as well. Fiat have been making the 1.2 8v since 1993 so it's a tried and tested engine of which tens upon tens of millions have probably been made and all the little niggles ironed out more or less. It's a common thread over various forums that DPF's are causing issues with diseasels and the MJ in the 500 is no different.

You said the current 1.3 is the pick of the crop, I simply pointed out that it's not all as rosy as you make it sound.

So, what percentage of diesel 500s have been affected? A very small amount, I'll wager

Fiat are quite open in saying that the 75 bhp diesel isn't suited for city work alone due the need to get the DPF cleared. They've been saying this for over a year, certainly before I bought my model. I suspect the main reason for any of these alleged problems is that certain people did not take heed of the advice given.

Further, as I understand it, Fiat say that the 95bhp model WILL be suitable for city based work alone.

You don't get it though. The 1.3 MJ is more prone to these annoying and costly faults than either the 1.2 or 1.4. Therefore it's not the undisputed heavyweight champion engine of the 500 range........

I could equally say that the petrol models are more likely to suffer from catalyst problems, simply as there isn't one on a diesel. You're plainly scaremongering.

Look at the figures - how many diesel 500s are you aware of as having the alleged problems you mention? A handfull? How many engines have failed? A smaller handfull?

Provide some hard evidence please

Oh and to top it all off AFAIK the 1.3 multijet has a cat as well.

Have Fiat been quite clear? I ask because if I went into my dealer to buy a 500 and liked the look of the Diesel economy, would the dealer explain to me that the car is not ideally suited to regular short journeys only, and that I might be better off with a petrol car. And is this information given in the sales literature?

I am not being contentious here because I genuinely don't know.

What he's said is a complete load of rubbish, nothing of the sort has ever been said, official or unofficial.

Yes, they were perfectly clear at Griffin Mill Fiat, just north of Cardiff. I explained that I was considering a 1.4 petrol or a diesel (the 1.2 was frankly not even a consideration for me, given its far lower torque), and they were very certain about the information provided

I've just read this on the Doblo thread...

My amber light has has since came on a a further twice, each time it went off after several restarts so its now time for the 07 diesel doblo to go, This problem isnt unique to the doblo nissan diesel quashquis are having the same issues ifnot worse and their sales staff have been advised not to recomend the diesels to people who do not do reguler motorway millage.

So I pick up a hyundai petrol tuscon next week to avoid the potential DPF issue, so goodbye reasonable mpg and hello ...

(My italics.)

I know from this website that there are problems with DPFs, and i know the same from experience at work with pool VW Diesel Polos.

I also know that Fiat is now fitting the DPFs nearer the manifold so that they heat up quicker and consequently work more reliably. The new 95 is of this type.

But is a potential buyer of a Fiat told all this? I wonder.
