The car is on Fiat UK configurator.
Currently have 1.2 Sport looking forward to extra power and torque!!![]()
It'll be good, no doubt. The current 75bhp diesel is already the pick of the 500 crop, so the new version will no doubt be superb.
Ignore all the nonsense some spew out about the heavier diesel engine causing terrible understeer - it's utter twaddle.
Yeah the pick of the crop. If you want to be going in for an oil change every 6 months, lovely if you like a noisy clutch, if you want to have to to go for an extra drive each Friday night to unclog the DPF and if you want your oil level to RISE between services it's just PERFECT!!!!!
If the diseasel was so great why do most people choose the 1.2 petrol?![]()
People buy the 1.2 because it's the cheapest on the forecourt, obviously!!
I've run my 500 diesel for almost a year now, and during that time I've not needed an oil change, not experienced any "noisy clutch", haven't taken any "extra drive each Friday night to unclog the DPF" and have not experienced any form of rising oil levels!
However, I have experienced easy 65-70mpg runs, plenty of torque to punt me up hills without a downchange, easy overtaking ability and high-speed cruising without revving the guts out of it!
Now remind me, how many of these diesel engines have fiat built now? Is it 2 million? And how many 500s have been fitted with diesel units? And how many have you known to experience problems? A handfull? That's hardly a problem now, is it?
Shame on you for spreading this alarmist claptrap!
It's a common thread over various forums that DPF's are causing issues with diseasels and the MJ in the 500 is no different.
You don't get it though. The 1.3 MJ is more prone to these annoying and costly faults than either the 1.2 or 1.4. Therefore it's not the undisputed heavyweight champion engine of the 500 range........So, what percentage of diesel 500s have been affected? A very small amount, I'll wager
Fiat are quite open in saying that the 75 bhp diesel isn't suited for city work alone due the need to get the DPF cleared. They've been saying this for over a year, certainly before I bought my model. I suspect the main reason for any of these alleged problems is that certain people did not take heed of the advice given.
Further, as I understand it, Fiat say that the 95bhp model WILL be suitable for city based work alone.

https://www.fiatforum.com/500/161485-gearbox-clutch-noise-new-500-a.html noisy clutchI could equally say that the petrol models are more likely to suffer from catalyst problems, simply as there isn't one on a diesel. You're plainly scaremongering.
Look at the figures - how many diesel 500s are you aware of as having the alleged problems you mention? A handfull? How many engines have failed? A smaller handfull?
Provide some hard evidence please

What he's said is a complete load of rubbish, nothing of the sort has ever been said, official or unofficial.Have Fiat been quite clear? I ask because if I went into my dealer to buy a 500 and liked the look of the Diesel economy, would the dealer explain to me that the car is not ideally suited to regular short journeys only, and that I might be better off with a petrol car. And is this information given in the sales literature?
I am not being contentious here because I genuinely don't know.

My amber light has has since came on a a further twice, each time it went off after several restarts so its now time for the 07 diesel doblo to go, This problem isnt unique to the doblo nissan diesel quashquis are having the same issues ifnot worse and their sales staff have been advised not to recomend the diesels to people who do not do reguler motorway millage.
So I pick up a hyundai petrol tuscon next week to avoid the potential DPF issue, so goodbye reasonable mpg and hello ...
