Last week, I had a 75bhp 1.3 multijet diesel 500 as a courtesy car. My own 500 car is a 1.2 8v. The immediately noticable difference was the powerful surge of the diesel engine around 2,500rpm, it was great. The 95bhp version should be fierce. The negative side was the noise and also the vibration through the steering wheel at idle. I found it a little harsh on the motorway at an indicated 70+mph compared to my 1.2 8v petrol which is silky smooth at that speed, although higher revving. The other negative issue was the clutch on this diesel which made an annoying grunt with each upward change. On handing back the courtesy diesel 500, I was very much aware of the smoothness and refinement of my 1.2 8v lounge. I think Fiat have done a great job with the refinement of what I believe is a well proven FIRE engine in this (old fashioned) 8v form.

The 95bhp version of the diesel 500 should be quite a warm hatch.

I've had my Diesel ByDiesel for 5 or 6 months now. No noisy clutch, no issues, no rattles, no oil pressure rising, no DPF issues.

No point scaremongering as someone already said. I personally think its the pick of the bunch.

Ive had mine for nearly 2yrs and again no issues. I also think that the engine is wonderful but under no circumstance is it worth the addition £2.4K compared to the 1.2

The one that is coming soon is my new one, as I've ordered one to replace my current 75 Sport. The first of the new engines are already in the country so should be in dealers next week hopefully

Nice to hear Scrogg. Will be arranging a test drive of the new 95bhp unit - got any branches ooop north yet?. If it's really got the extra ooomph as the paper stats indicate then it will be troubling a few abarths. My baby already shifts.

Somewhere on the net I saw 0-60 quoted as 10.7 seconds for the 95hp multijet. Probably linked off here somewhere.

Abarth 500 is 7 secs to 60 so the diesel is still nearly 4 secs slower...
