General Dealer Fit Alarm

General Dealer Fit Alarm

It is if they've got instructions in english! (see my post 'and so it begins'!)

Why not fit it yourself:)
Or just not bother?

The value of a 500 isn't high enough for the 'professional' car thieves to even bother with, and the standard immobiliser will beat the joyriders (who generally only steal old Vauxhalls anyway).

If an alarm does go off people only ignore it anyway, so they're a waste of money in my opinion.

Ulpian - erm, what's silly? So far I can just see an honest question and some honest replies. Bit confused - sorry!

Look!
I have seen people confused by the various trim and mechanical options - all understandable given Fiats ever morphing website, and I am the first to ask for the correct details when ordering a new car. Fiat has, as ever, buggered up the ordering process by confusing putative buyers as to suspension rates, seat heights, seat tipping systems, and much else besides. We know that, the salesmen are not properly informed and the whole thing is organised chaos. Never mind. The car is a gem. Wait for the new twin say I, but nobody listens to me anyway, and the designer babes want the little 'handbag' NOW! And they are in agony. So would I be if I was after a fashion statement, but were I after a car, I'd be more measured.

Messy grammar, apologies for that - pissed -, but all this nicey-nicey is getting on my tits...
I really don't mean to be rude, but if customers were a little bit more easy going, and salesmen were a little bit better informed, and more honest, there wouldn't be any problems.

Yep, I'm pissed too, so that works out nicely.

Who on this thread would you like to be more easy going, I'm really sorry, but I just don't know who you're having a dig at! You need to be a bit more specific with your insults!

but he askled about opinions on getting a alarm fitted?

An alarm sounding will attract attention even if its just a passing glance & will deter most opportunist thiefs....make it harder for the thieving scum not easier!
Surely it will only deter opportunists if they actually know one is fitted?

In which case, why not just put stickers on the window saying an alarm is fitted and save a few quid? :p

Ive looked, and seen that this is a new thread. Please accept my apologies. I have finally burst! So many comments and so many themes, and this one was the one that tripped me!
The 500 is a car. Only a car. It is very cute, but notwithstanding that, it is still only a car. The 500 to really have, with the twin cylinder 80 bhp and 110bhp twin cylinder engines, isn't yet available. This'll come in 2009. I keep seeing customers discussing the merits of the various current motors, especially the relative merits of the 1200, when these engines will soon be obsolete. I believe that some of these people aren't aware of future Fiat developments, and why should they be. The fuss over an alarm just tripped me! Overload. Sorry!

There is one on every forum :bang:

We are considering the alarm, it will probably get a slight reduction on insurance and I guess if someone tries to nick it and the alarm goes off they may run away.

Mind you if it goes off in the middle of the night for no reason as my current car's does in summer then you may be better off without it.

I imagine its a couple of plug in modules so fitting shouldn't be a trauma but worht asking the dealer to confirm.

Ulpian - no worries, it happens! As for 'the 500 to really have' - I'm hoping to upgrade to an Abarth SS, much as I will no doubt love my 1.4 Sport; there's a whole new discussion we can have!

Well, you're not upsetting me - I've drunk so much Stella I can barely type!
