As the 500 only has an immobiliser, is it possible to fit a basic alarm without affecting the canbus system? I have an old cheap alarm in the shed that is still boxed and never used. It’s not got an immobiliser and works on a shock sensor and/or voltage drop to trigger it. There’s an LED as well so that’s just 3 wires to connect. Would it confuse the car’s existing brain?

If you’re not wiring it in to the cars existing wiring loom, and not using the alarms immobiliser system, then there should be no problem…if you’re wiring it into the courtesy light, for the alarm to sense a voltage drop or ‘alarm input’ put a diode in line

If it’s a simple 3 wire, like the one on our quad bike, it senses voltage drop via the positive feed, but it’s been going off of its own accord by voltage drop through the cold weather…took me ages to figure that one out, I’ve replaced the battery and that’s cured it
