Greetings, Just when you think that all is going well - rebuild on course - Pistons and barrels in, sump on, filter pulley on, and head on, but wait a minute the new pushrods seem too long??? a quick measure and lo and behold my old pushrods are 225mm and the new set are 235mm what the !!!!!!!
How can this be????????
I know my engine is a hybrid of fiat 500/126 parts, but I didn't suspect this difference. They were ordered from VDL as (EP9490 N-D-F-L-R-G-126) so what is the origin of my pushrods??? I have confirmed that they are NOT 126 BIS, so I must have something else :mad::mad: But it's very perplexing as the engine is 126 based and standard stroke length. Maybe from another Fiat engine - HELP required please.

Ian.

Hi, I had some time on my hands and have found the following supplier. They have two lengths available 235mm and 227mm. Here's a link to the supplier Fiat 500 Fischer Tuning.

Thanks Hobo, I was aware of Fischer, but didn't know they did the two differing sizes of rod (must the only supplier though!) My initial thoughts were that the small size difference could be adjusted out, but am concerned about the end fittings which are different too. Have been in contact with the Marque Expert and he suggests to simply remove the end fitting, cut to size and refit !!! Just waiting on some used parts as I'm not going to use the new set when one will do. (y)

At only 5 euros each, I would be tempted to fit a complete set Ian, especially if the patterns of the ends are different vis-a-vie your 'original' push-rods and the replacement push-rods.

I wonder if the longer ones are standard and the shorter ones are needed sometimes when a really high-lift camshaft is fitted, especially in conjunction with a thin head-gasket and a skimmed head. This would maintain the correct angle of the rockers.
If so, I would hazard a guess that you need the shorties Ian. :)

now a while back I'd swear there was a post...... didn't someone fit a Modern 500 pushrod to a Prototypi and break something because the rocker gear is different.

Hi Peter, Thanks for the input and yes I do need the shorter version. Although my cam is not too wild 35/75-75/35 it would have higher lift ish (y) the gasket is only 0.5mm and the head is skimmed somewhat, I do have a 1.0mm base support plate too. BUT this layout is not as severe as original. As TCM has said - been in contact with the Marque Expert and he suggests to simply remove the end fitting, cut to size and refit !!! it seems that it's a known fix ??? I thank the engine gods that this is not a rare early motor - it would drive me mad - or madder than I already am with this engine :mad::mad::mad::mad:

cross my palm with silver and such an engine could be yours...
