Panda (Classic) My Sisley, Panda 4x4 - division north

Introduction

As mentioned before, I'm starting new thread for my recent purchease.
Bought it from forum user, deposit was place without seeing the car first, went all the way down south with rest of the cash and A-frame in boot.

First summary of the car is ( 1 is very poor, 10 is perfect):

  • Originality - 6,
  • Bodywork - 7,
  • Engine - 6,
  • Gearbox - 5,
  • Interior - 5,
  • Structural rust - 8,
  • Visible rust - 8,
  • Previous owners maintain - 7
Plan for the car is to keep it road worthy and in good mechanical nick, join Panda 4x4 UK club and have some play with other Northern forum members.

As it is now, I'm not willing to make any statement what needs to be done as I had only spend about 2h last week by checking and looking at the car in more details way.

That is my bigger worry for now - bloody milky coolant and a bit of mayo under the oil cap.

How can I confirm my head gasket theory not having coolant presure test kit???
@CLS - your not the only one - aparently it is bloody hard to buy cheepo 4x4 without blown thru head gasket.

The rest of the engine bay seems to be fine,

Did somebody in here mentioned a black silicone gunk as a fast repair?

Dear FFCP section members, any comments, suggestions and observation are more than welcome, especcialy regards the 4x4 drive train i.e. leaks etc.
Just came back from Durham again, yes- i've been there last Friday as well.
First trip started with approx. 1h delay so after 2 hours drive i've arrived on the Scrap yard already past 5pm, two strong very nice chaps were expecting me and agreed to wait up to 30 min. There was no time for chatting etc. just loaded the "1.2 Punto 60 S " complete engine on the back of my estate, signed simple receipt, handed over £££ - job done.

Before collection DVLA reg no. database confirmed 1.2 punto.

Less the 15 minutes after 1ton Clarke strong man engine hoist was loaded on he back as well. That was perfect synchronisation - almost hard to believe. In all that rush there was one thing wich was bothering my all the way down to Scar'bo - engine code!!!
Hand wiring on the receipt was not clear at all, but the forth digit from the back was looking more like 2 not 3.

When returned to the "base" engine hoist was used streight away to unload the engine, simple wooden frame fabricate to hold engine in vertical position. Engine code was hard to read out as it was not the "punched" one just the "doted" print out, after 10 minutes it was clear enough to make statement - 176B2.000 .

Ohh bugger - 1.1 spi 1108cc - so, the fiat dealer made huge mistake when car was first registered or the 1.2 engine was already replaced.

Luckly for me, yard owner has agreed to take it back today and refund me with full amount but i'm back in starting point. :(

Lesson learned: get the engine code before any collection arrangements.

Ps. I'm lucky that my daily estate runs on LPG, 11p per mile isn't that bad.

Long time no update so here it is.
Sisley is driveable condition, already covered over 100 miles. Some of the local passable lane were done (Staxton Hill), but i'm still in the process of final tune.

As suggested the temp gauge is reading 15-20 degrees higher compared with other panda. When started from cold- choke on, engine runs fine, after warm up period idle is smooth- temp gauge stable at 100 deg. But under load or heavy acceleration engive hesitate to rev in. Setting off can be only done with choke out, when in neutral engine will rev up as should with preety rapid response. Today i'll try to fine tune the carburettor again, and confirm the acceleration pump is operating. Any suggestions? New ignition module and pickup coil is in my stock :)

I'm still convince that the problems are cause by the carb or fuel supply. I need to extend the rubber fuel hose to fuel filter to allow the filter itself to be leaned toward pump as now it's oposite so the petrol needs to be swirled/sucked up thru the filtering element.

I thought all Sisley's were f.I.r.e engines with single point injection?
