hi jus joined up and own a mint mk2 turbo. it has full scorpion and k+n and a super strada cam fitted.{more lift} it also has a very low milage punto turbo fitted which seems larger in size an its running bout 1.4 bar of boost. blew bout 3 standard turbos running to high of boost.. im looking to get as much power out of this as possible as i own the car 8 years now an got it restored 3 years ago and its lucky if its done 100 miles since. its jus a toy really but i want to hav it going as well as possible for whenever i do decide to take it out.. it cracked 2 exhaust manifolds because of its weak mixture already. i would prefer some sort of management system upgrade instead of the crude fse valve most people talk of. can anyone help or even refer me to someone who can. i work at cars myself mostly electrics an diagnostics so know wat people are talkin about..cheers Aidan.. :)

The FSE boost valves can be fine when set up by someone who knows what they are doing on a decent Rolling Road...

Dunc on here is running 200+ bhp without a custom ECU and fuelling adjusted with an FSE look into it

HTH :)

thats the sort thing i want to hear. the more info i can get the better. not sure wat sort of power it is but it was quicker than a vr6 golf as it was.. any help is greatfully appreciated. (y)

If your running higher boost I would deffo advice you get your fuelling checked out as I melted a piston and destroyed my block on my Uno!

First up, turn the boost down for now. Its the cause of all your previous problems and its not doing you any good at all.

The turbo is too small to run 1.4 bar efficiently
The engine management will not support 1.4 bar, it will run lean. Poor power and reliability.

If you want more power a larger turbo is the first thing on your list. The Punto turbo is no bigger than an Uno one.

I would say that should be the second thing on the list after a decent fuelling setup! ;)

Yeah there are different ways to do it. The standard engine management will be ok with a turbo upgrade as long as you dont run too much boost though.

would the cam i hav in b better than the standard 1.? and wat if i got the fuelling sorted an used a bigger intercooler could i run higher boost then.? 1 bar is dead as anything..(n) wat sort of power would it hav been roughly the way i hav it..? it didnt seem any quicker really wen i fitted that cam jus seemed harder on fuel but i suppose thats because it wasnt gettin any more fuel sprayed in. this is why i wanted some kind of management system fitted to alter the pulse duration of the injectors rather than higher pressure so when the injector opened more fuel is being forced in..am i correct in wat im saying.??wat should it go like compared to a type r civic after a few mods.? a couple of sarcastic fools over here needin their faces reddined..(y) i also hav a 1.6 tempra lyin here which i was toying with the idea of using the bottom end. i need to know wat approach to take as i can do the work myself. cheers:)

The cam is probably better than the standard one. I know it has a little more lift for a start. It will probably fill the cylinder better. However its still not going to help with that standard turbo. The engine is still choked by the turbo. Its simple turbo design, it can only produce XX airflow for xx power, not more.

Power would probably be around 140-150 somewhere. With such high boost it will have huge torque when the boost comes on. This will make it feel very fast but the overall power curver the engine will have wont be very good for quick acceleration. You'll find that it will make 130-140HP at 1 bar boost and be very reliable too. I dount it would be any slower over a long sprint.

You need forged pistons for the 1.6L block and at least some sort of special head gasket. There block is also not designed for a turbo so it will take a little more work to get it done. After all that the engien will have a lot more torque and power but wont be as reliable. Its a good option IMO for a medium power engine but the factory turbo engines, expecially the 1.3L are the strongest. Some people are achieveing 250BHP+ on the 1.3 and 1.4

thanx for that steve. so wat do u think is the best place to start then i would ideally like 200 bhp but anything is a bonus. if i got the fueling to match say 1.2 bar wat type of power could i expect and wat parts should i now b starting to look out for..?? im told an uprated intercooler is a good help and someone said punto injectors are better also.. is there any other injectors that will fit.. im not goin to b doin long runs so reliability isnt crucial i do understand possibilities of a melt down but this wee car has took some thrashings sorry for hassling everyone..(y)
