Technical Cold engine issue

When you changed the stepper motor, did you change the spacer between bosch unit and manifold? Have you got a manifold to head leak when cold causing a weak mixture? Have you checked your plugs to see what colour they are?
When you change the coolant temp sensor, ALWAYS use a Fiat item, not an aftermarket one as they are no good. Airflow sensor maybe faulty allowing a lean or over rich mixture[check plugs].

Andy.
Why dont you have the emissions checked and a diagnostic done?

Emissions were OK since last time I measured them. I also checked sparkplugs, and they matche those in Haynes manual with good condition - slightly brown/grey deposits. But somehow I think this Tipo is caching his age, the engine is not as it used to be. Engine strenght is fading. It seems like some of it's horse powers were being taken away. I tried Polo 1.4 Classicc 1999 with less horse power (aprox. 60 HP), and engine simply has more strenght then mine.

Is my Lambda corrupted ? I have measure it (when car is cold), and it's showing 0.8-1.0 Volts. With worm car (90°C), it's 0.1 -0.9 V.

I figure, with lambda showing high voltage when cold, ECU is compensating due to appearance of High Lambda voltage and injecting to little fuel. That should probably explain hesitation problems when cold. How much should heater resistance be on sensor? I've set my Ohm meter to 200 Ohm scale and it's showing 0.43 Ohms on cold car.

I have read that using an Ohm meter on a zirconium lambda sensor can (?will) destroy its ability to respond correctly- presumably it doesn't like having the voltage put across it. Hopefully that's not the case for yours. K

I didn't measure the signal wire, I've measured the two heating wires.

I have tripped on the new issue. In cold weather, when engine is cold and driving down the hill, when I've put it in IDLE (letting engine, to propell itself, not by the wheels) RMP fall on 600 (battery and oil lights came on) and then revs slowly raised back on normal. One time it even happened, that it died from low revs and I had to turn it back on. This is happening on cold weather and with cold engine.. still trying to figure it out..

Now this happend with Hot engine to. Rews fell and car died (in IDLE mode). I had to drive off the hill with engine off on a plane surface, then I was able to start it back again. Any ideas, maybe Lambda problem or .. ?

Thanks

i had the same problem a while back
checked the lambda but it was fine
when the car started to die in idle, i found out it was the stepper motor
i got a new one and the problem is gone for good(y)

When I start cold engine and I start driving emediately, when I press the throtle, it has no power up the hill. Like it's ignoring my throtle pressed. Then in a 2 or three seconds delay It accelerates and car goes fine afterwards. What could couse this ? It is the symptom from last few years, but I decited to get to the bottom of this. Tipo 1.4 i.e.
Hi there, I have just aqquired a 93 1.4 s ie. I am having the same problem too. Flat spots, occasionaly, and when cold or warm, she can just die on me, she will tick over okay, but give it some fuel, and it simply does not want to know. I have boiled it down to changing the fuel filter, will do that after sorting out the handbrake problem. If i open her up totaly! it seems to clear the problem. Hence dirty fuel....

Oh my God, it was the fuel pump. Car died on me today, when I got home from work. Checked for spark - OK, but mi SPI unit didn't get any gasoline. Took my pump out and repaired wireing conectors and it started to work again with full power. It seems it stoped working, when car was in cetrain position up/down the hill and pump was getting bad wireing contact. I'm just glad, my engine is working perfectly now as it should :)
