hello all :)

i did a seach but couldn't find my problem so i'm gonna post

1992 Fiat Tipo 1.4 (italy)

Well i can be driving down the road and blam freaking wipers come on. they get stuck. its not when it's raning so its not sorting out or any thing. totaly spratic[xx(]

they are stuck on high (both front and back come on) it may go a week and then suddenly start again. only way to stop them is to pull the fuse or the celinoid that controls them

i have tried moving wires check on the out side nothing, i am stumped at this, some time using the window washer will shut them off some times not. they still work fine all speeds work just some time turn on for no reason.

any idea [?]

thanks :)

wiper stalk???? whats that? oh and how much would it cost?

umm i though that to but that works perfect and i tried messing with it and it does no good while the wipers are on, the are always on high speed when they turn on??

could be an internal problem with the switch mechanism inside the stalk which would cause the problem you describe.fitting these is very simple, it clips in and the wires plug in,simple.in the united kingdom we would pay 5-10 british pounds second hand.i wouldnt pay for a new one.go to your local scrap yard/auto breakers and try to find one and see if this fixes your problem

Try the fusebox - under the dash on the right......(in UK)

this seams to be a common Tipo problem; a water leak from the windscreen seal - water drips onto the fuse box munching the PCB inside. We've had this problem with all three Tipos in my family...... and the easiest solution is to position a plastic bag on top of the fuse box so no water can get to it.......it worked on my tipo once i'd allowed it to dry out

128 3P 1500
Tipo 16v 3dr

thats were the puddle of water is coming from,

only thing, it has been dry for a whike and still does it everynow and then

Could also be the wiper motor. I had the same with my uno. All switches off and still the wiper starts moving.
Inside the wiper motor is a small switch. When the wiper arms are in horizontal position the switch is open. So they stay in horizontal position. When you give an command with the wiper stalk the wiper rotates one time untill its comes into horizontal position again (and the micro-switch inside the wiper-motor switches again). If the microswitch inside the wiper-motor is worn, the wiper starts working on its own and at any time. So its also possible that the wiper stays stuck in vertical position

Good point about faulty wiper motor self-parking, but that would perhaps not explain the rear wiper going as well?

I wonder about the fusebox too, since wouldn't a fault there be upstream of the switch anyway (i.e. it would just affect the supply to the switch?) Still, there must be some curious there-and-back wiring designed in there to support the variable-intermittent solenoid and the wipe-with-wash (that's probably why the wipers stop briefly after use of the washer).

With my Tipo if I went over a sharp bump, the wipers would start... it was simply the weight of that great big stalk on the switch... Obviously it's more than that in this case, but my money would still be on the switch and its wiring.

well its not the nodes i swapthem out with friends car and it still does it......

i see that web page you sent but....but i can't read it, can someone translate it for me?

No need to trnslate! Just look at the pictures how to disassemble and then clean.
p.s.
for wipers look at the second half of the page

Yes, link above is to be how to replace the bulbs... and yes - the switch guts (switch contacts, springs, etc.) is in the box part, but only for fast speed of wipers!
But the problem commonly come from the switch, which is for slow speed of wipers, and it is inside of wiper-lever. The problem has come when summer sunshine warm the dirt in the wiper-lever switch, or when hot air from the air-vent (the winter season) warm the dirt in the wiper-lever.
