Hi

I know that there have been similar posts but I would appreciate somefurther advice on this problem.

I am having some clutch problems onmy Multi 2002 JTD with 102k on it. I brought it 3.5 years ago with 90k on it ,I problem became apparent almost straight away, but due to only doing lowmileage and short journeys ( and being a bit lazy) I have lived with it.

Basically if I sit in traffic, in gear with the clutch depressed, after ashort while it becomes difficult either disengage gear or change gear if Imove off.

To overcome this I just sit in neutral foot off the clutch . Also selectingreverse at any time has always been a bit clunky.

Last week in a underground car park I drove 'normally' ie costingaround in gear dipping the clutch when slowing and braking until I found aspace. When I came to reverse I had to wrench the gear stick into neutral as itwas stuck solid. Since then even doing a simple manoeuvre like reversing ontothe drive results in the gear stick becoming stiff to move.

I have tried bleeding the slave cylinder (a few tiny bubbles came out) as inprevious posts but the problem remains.

The clutch pedal sits about level with the brake pedal and has a few mm freeplay, it is smooth to operate though slightly stiff to depress and returns properlyunder spring tension .The car had a new clutch at 57k and a new master cylinderat 60k,

Should I try to bleed the system again or look else where ?

Many thanks for looking.

Multie clutch problem!

Hi

Welcome to the forum Neddy.

In the instance above, does the clutch engage very close to the floor, i.e. as soon as you start to lift the pedal?

How close to the floor is the pedal when it's disengaging properly (or as properly as it can)?

You shouldn't really sit with the clutch depressed by the way, it shortens the life of the release bearing, which could be part of the problem.

Have a look here, scroll down to the Gearbox and Clutch section...

Hi BikeDoc,

Thank you for your post. I have found that the spring in
side the slave cylinder has broken. I have ordered a new one , so hopefully once fitted the problem will be solved :)
