My 07 Citroen Relays (same as Ducato) fan only works at No 4, 3,2,1, do nothing checked both 40a fuses with a meter, both are OK.

So is this a common problem or am I just lucky  :(

On most fans, there is a resistor pack near the fan.
It will work on number 4 because the voltage is un resisted (12 volts),the pack lowers the voltage, but as it does,it creates heat.
That's why it's positioned in the air flow,to cool it.
There maybe 3 wires going to the fan, depending on how it's wired.
There will be 3/4 wires going to a small unit screwed into the air pipe for the fan.
Remove this, and then check the resistance of the coils or the pack.
They are usually about £40 from the main dealers.
I'm a mechanic, and I change quite a few of these on different cars.

Pull off the connector plug located under main glove box (passenger side )check the terminals, clean, close them up and pop back on,
I've done this on three vans (1 my own and 2 hire vans)

Thanks for the help and links so far, I'm not the most useful at auto DIY, Does any one have a photo of the location of this faulty part so it's easier to identify, and is is possible to fit a better component to stop it happening again?

Kev.

PS any part numbers would also be useful, then I can search for best prices.

That's what I get for buying a quality vehicle :D :D (n):bang:

My problem is I'm disabled, and also skint, but I can possibly do it myself once I see exactly what's involved.

There seem to be some who say it's in the middle of the dash and others who say it's under the left glove box.

Follow where the connector plugs into the housing of the fan motor, you should fine a screw or two holding in the resistor. Unscrew and the resistor will pull out.

Thanks everyone I'll give it good looking at when I get chance and I'll take some pictures and post the results, it might be a little while though, too many other silly jobs to do and it needs to warm up a bit for me to be able to contort myself at all.

I forgot to reply, fan now working normally, fitted the Punto resistor pack, all OK since.

I hate it when people don't post results, so I shall give my self a severe talking to, once I'm finished the self flagellation :D
