its a 1.8, i bought it off ebay for 750 (bargain imo), what i didnt know is it had had a quick fix done on the head and 3 weeks in and the ebgine starts rattling like a ****
one garage said the big ends were shot and another thought it was top end, so i got an engine with 18000 on and an extra 900 squid later (that inc clutch and cam kit) its runnin sweet
gonna have to keep it for longer than intended now but on the upside i could have paid alot more for it in the first place!!

Thats like me after spending that money on mine i cant let it go, after struggling to get it to run somewhere near normal it would feel like i wasted all my money so will run it for another 12 me thinks!then upgrade!

ive got a 2000 1.6 awell that the girlfriend drives, its newer so is a nicer drive and i tend to compare mine to that which isnt fair on the old girl really (the car not the misses lol)
but now its got less miles on the engine its alot more nimble than it was so im gettin used to it
ah well any thing with tits or wheels is gonna cost yer money unfortunatley
hope we both get some trouble free motorng for a good while anyway (touches wood)
