When the lad and I went through the car wash a wee while back there was a drip drip noise that sounded internal and behind the dash/footwell sort of area. No wet carpets at any point, but it sat in my mind. So, whilst under the bonnet for something else t’other day, I decided to check if the duckbills were clear or not, as in a year of ownership I’ve never checked this on my wee green tractor.

I located them (using excellent pics/guide by @Herts Hillhopper ) and tried to get a grip on the end of them, but tech with the lightest touch they moved back up and away from my fingers. They seem to be loosely placed in a hole and pivot away from me very easily. Is that normal? Or has somebody handled my duckbills too roughly in the past and dislodged them from the spot they ought to sit in securely?

When the more centrally mounted one moved upwards it did release some water clearly trapped above it, whilst the one nearer the OS had nowt come out when it was jiggled around.

Guessing if this isn’t right it’s a wipers and scuttle off job to give em a clean and insert properly into their holes? Or do away with them cause what chance of fumes is their really and then never have to clean again?

Like you, I displaced mine and had to take everything apart to get them back in, whilst in there, I gave everything a damn good cleaning, including the duckbills which had some sort of grease on them.

Thay are just a press fit and easily dislodged, if you can grip them, you can pull them back, but not easy to do so.

Clearing all the silt and compost out of the scuttle reduces the risk of them blocking again.

Gripping them was not happening under this bonnet!
I threw mine away. I can still sleep at night.
May be the option to go for, guess it still involves scuttle disassembly, until then I will keep bobbling them in and out!
