Hi again guys

Found a weird problem with my 1998 Fiat Ducato and wondered if anyone can point me in the right direction or as had a similar problem.

I have wired up the car stereo correctly, including the memory wire to permanent 12v live. And fitted a new dashboard digital clock as the old one wasn't working. And what is happening is that you store the stations on the stereo presets and set the time on the clock and on turning the ignition key off and then back on it resets both the radio and the clock. (By the way these wires are not connected in anyway) as far as I can tell, I've tested them with a multi-meter.

I've got a feeling its an earthing problem somewhere. Any feedback and advice would be very welcome.

Paul :)

Hi there thank you for taking the time to reply.

Yes all checked with a multimeter and there are 2 permanent lives when the keys is completely out of the ignition. I connected the memory to the chunkier red permanent live, the other one is a a smaller red and black wire.

The yellow wire runs live from the ignition and I have connected it to the switch wire on the car stereo.

What I don't understand is that digital clock that I've replaced as the original plug in connector that just pushes and locks on the clock. Not touched that at all, and yet the clock keeps resetting on starting the ignition as well. Weird

Cheers for the comment

Look forward to anymore comments or advice (pointers) thanks guys

you would be best hard wiring direct to the battery for your supply, as you may have wired into a neutral switched device so it looks like a positive feed but is actualy a neutral or you have a very bad earth.
just cos the clock connector is the same does not mean the ign & live feed are the same way round that would cause clock to reset every time

Thanks for the comments guys much appreciated :)

There is an update, I am pretty convinced there is an earth fault somewhere for sure now. This morning while driving my van, I had the radio on, the fans for the blowers were off, the dashboard clock was illuminated and working. All I did was turn the temperature dial to the cold position and knock me down with a feather, my stereo went off and so did the clock, turn the temperature dial half way and bang all back on again.

Also not sure if this has anything to do with it, but for some time my glow plug light on the dashboard kept flashing on switching the engine on, now I've noticed that it doesn't come on at all. Engine starts ok but must be a fault in the wiring loom for all these problems to be happening. Think they have been happening for quite some time as when I bought the van 6 months ago, all the bulbs behind the centre console for heater, cigarette lighter, hazard light etc were blown.
