Hi My starter motor refused to work on two frosty mornings so I removed it and it worked fine on the bench.
The wire from the ignition switch to the selenoid has no power when key is turned.
I am wondering if a wire from the switch to the seleniod will do the job.
Any help will be very helpful.

Model
ducato 244
Year
2006
Sorry, most definitely not a problem with the immobiliser.
Could be the ignition switch, or wiring which routes via the engine bay fusebox.
Applicable Fiat eLearn diagram E5010 attached.
I have also attached colour code translation sheet, and a recent diagram of mine showing the ignition switch in a different way. In this latter diagram there is connection across the switch, where there is a black square associated with that switch position..

Thank you very much I will try the wire from the fusebox first. It's strange that both times it happened it was below freezing.

Mine refused to engage. From memory, no solenoid action. Turns out there is a steel "shim" (for want of a better word) between the alloy bell housing and the alloy starter motor flange. My fault was electrolytic corrosion on both sides of the shim. Cleaned the layers with emery tape, re-assembled with anti-seize (silver impregnated) grease & it cranked faster than it ever had since I purchased it. Hard to believe the flange & 3x bolts could go open-circuit but they definitely did.

Hello mate , did you manage to sort out your problem as it seems to me that I’ve got the same problem , my fiat Ducato 2006 it’s a Motorhome and it won’t start , tried the starter on a bench and it works fine , I thought it might be the immobiliser but a mechanic took it off and still nothing , can you please let me know if you manage to sort out your issue or have any idea what it could be

I don’t know the reason but with all the talk about water ingress under the bonnet and the freezing temperatures maybe it’s that. I took a wire from the power line to the fuse box under the bonnet through a 30 amp fuse to an on off switch to a remote starter switch then down to the solenoid and that does start the engine

2006 was a model change year, but I assume that since you have posted in his section, your base vehicle is an x244.
The Fiat immobiliser does not stop the engine cranking, it prevents fuel injection.
An after market alarm system could be connected into the starter solenoid circuit, and prevent operation of the starter motor. You say that a "mechanic" removed your immobiliser, but how thoroughly? I would have thought that removal was a task for an auto electrician. Is it possible that a relay contact has been removed from the solenoid circuit, and the repair to the wiring is inadequate? Another possibility is that the starter contact on the ignition switch has increased in resistance with use.. Also the solenoid circuit loops through the engine bay fusebox. There could be some increase in connector contact resistance there. (I also assume that you have checked the connection at the solenoid..)

He removed the immobiliser from under the dashboard and connected the cables that people interrupted by the contact when they fitted the immobiliser he basically said that he took it off and wired everything as it was before the immobiliser he did check the connection at the starter as he took it off to try the starter on the bench
