Wipers problem

Hey all

I have a 51 plate Fiat Punto Go. About 18mths ago the drivers wiper suddenly stopped working. My Dad manages to fangle something together to make it work again (a metal clip). Now the passenger side one has stopped working and evrything my dad has tried has only lasted one go of the wipers . My local Fiat have said I'll need the whole wiper unit replaced, and quoted £170.

Does anyone have any suggestions other than the replacement?

I'm not very knowledgable about cars. I do know a local mechanic who can do work for me if I can get the part. Could I get the part from a scrapyard/spares yard and have it fitted? Or should I go for a new part?

Its a commom problem this, my passenger side one has a cable tie on it lol, there is a thread on here somewhere and someone supplying stronger connectors and motors; if you can find it, but the cheap option would be the scrap yard.

Personally I wouldnt replace it with a 2nd hand one as it is likely to be worn anyway! Genuine brand new linkages can be picked up for £60 if you look hard enough
