Thanks a lot all, can anyone recommend a good quality washer fluid with antifreezing properties? There are so many out there with mixed reviews that jets still freeze 😞
Neat concentrated Prestone with a dash of water seems good.

Hi all, wipers fluid not coming out after a very cold night (-6C) despite being warmer now. Tried to warm up the car but its still not coming out. Any suggestions pls? Fiat500 petrol, 2014. Thanks
The correct mix of washer fluid is required not a that will do amount, so mix in a jug or old container using a jug to measure the concentrate, I have a old one with a 1 and 2L mark on the side then fill to 5l?
Also defrost with warm water the actual washer jets, the anti freeze component evaporates right at the open end of the jet too reducing the ability to prevent freezing especially if they get warmed in the sun during the day, try to get some -15c concentrate and mix as per instructions?

Finding concentrate is getting more difficult. I did find some stuff on 500ml bottles last week but thats the first concentrate Ive seen for ages. I think I may try and buy in bulk if I can find the right stuff. Most really good cleaning agents and windscreen stuff is in that group, seeem to work best when used strong, but bleach as an example does not work very well neat and requires some water to activate its best properties. SOme WW concentrates however do say use neat to get the best antifreeze. There were once heated washer kits that basically went round and orund a hot heater hose. I havnt seen them for a long while either. They did work well, I fitted one to one of my earky compny cars. I understand Rolls Royce use electrically heated nozzles. The trouble with Pandas is the washer nozzles stick up in a stub, into the cold airstream flowing over the car so frozen nozzles are pretty well built in to the design.

When working in the trade I always bought boxes of 4 five litre cans of concentrated screenwash at a good price just before Winter, the local cash and carry did used to do it , but I notice they only do small containers now so pointless and all the petrol forecourts sell "ready to use" diluted. Heated is OK if the jets are not already frozen solid before you drive off.
Maybe we should ask some of our Nordic Forum members what they normally do.:)

When I was driving at work often I would put the car in my garage overnight and the washers would be working when I set off, then they would freeze and often it would take 100 miles before they eventually thawed out again. Coming home at night was worse you just had to stop and clean screen and lights when visibility got down below 5% LOL

Never very cold down here , but I do recall charging along at round 60mph in a Singer Gazelle and thought I would clear the screen with the wipers and washers, instantly blind so had to wind drivers window down to guess where the road was.:)

Porlock hill or worse the road going down into the town the other side.....😂

Strangely not a road I have used, even though not far a way, but well known.
Porlock and Sutton Bank both disappointed me. Gas Hill in Norwich is much more of a challenge although without an 800 foot cliff near by. I used to make my daughters do hill starts in this one. Its goes straight and straight up. You nearly always have to stop at the T junction at the top too. Panda 4x4 with hill holder makes it much easier. Both the girls still hate me for my zelous training methods.....

I taught my wives and daughters the same way with varying success, I recall second wife making her do a hill start like that and then telling her to turn the car around and do it backwards starting up the hill, this in a 435cc lhd Citroen Dyane with a pistol grip handbrake. They all managed it but when we drive so many different cars it is easier for us to have the confidence. Also the snow and icy car park sliding experience.;)

With the 435 motor I would have thought backwards was the ONLY way up a steep slope. 2CV and the CV's were half sized.

Actually if you kept it on the boil it was alright, I think I paid £40 for it on Dutch number plates but had spent all it's life in Spain so no rust. Roughly 60mph flat out and if you put up with the body lean it would do that through the bends although oldest daughter's stomach usually caused me to slow down.;)

Found this, not my flavour

Seems strange their minus 20 degrees is more expensive than the cherry minus 30degrees?
Until I read the 2 litre bit, typical advertising that shows all three containers the same size in their listing advert from a quick glance.:(

You have to watch that green sh*t, doesn’t like coming off your paintwork if you use it too strong

Its why I like Prestone if you can get it. I used to make my own but it was probably explosive thinking back!
