General Wing mirror question

I have a MkIIb Punto

Last week my wing mirror was clipped by a passing car when it was parked up

The wing mirror folded in, smashed the glass but not damaging the wing mirror casing itself

The glass came out along with the backing for the glass, which I no longer have... just phoned my local FIAT garage and I've been told that I'd have to replace the whole unit as the backing piece is secured in

I've bought an identical wing mirror online, would I be able to remove the glass and backing from that and attach it to the existing one?

this happend to me. i got the replacement glass from halfords. and siliconed it on i can still adjust the mirror too just was a bit fiddly but has worked a treat
