Anybody had problems with the wiper/washer 20amp fuse blowing intermitantly?
My 2001 JTD has started blowing the fuse every now and again. I think it is when the intermitant front wiper is on, as I drove home tonight with the medium wipe speed on for 20 miles no problem after changing the fuse.
Cracked the windsreen trying to get the wiper arms off to inspect motor:cry:. you really do need the extractor tool. Anyone any ideas? The connections to the rear motor and washer pump look ok but I cant get to the front motor. Once the windscreen guy removes the arms to replace the windscreen I might have some luck:(

This may or may not help.

The cause of one of the main beam lights intermittant fusing was found to be the wiper arm having worn through the insulation and shorting the headlight feed on occasion when the reciprocating connecting rod touched the cable. It didn't happen every time which was why it took some time to locate.

Could this also occur with the wiper feed ? - I don't know !

If it was a short, I'd expect it to blow every time you used it.
My guess, from the info you've given, would be that there's a tight pivot somewhere in the mechanism, the motor's drawing more current to power the wipers, blowing the fuse.
The intermittent setting puts more (electrical) load on the system because it's starting from a standstill with every cycle.
It takes less current to keep the mechanism cycling once it's moving, than it does to start it from a standstill.
Give all the pivot points a good lube with some light oil (3-in-1 or similar).
Disconnect the motor from the rest of the mechanism if you can and cycle the wipers by hand to check for any binding.

You're lucky it's just blowing the fuse occasionally.
The Renault Espace I had a few years ago developed a short that would cut the ignition when the wipers were on .
I had to drive my youngest Daughter up to Great Ormond Street in it, it was dry when we left, but two miles into the (26 mile) trip it started p##sing down, and rained all the way there...that was fun!
Speed up a bit...wipers on for two sweeps with the engine dead...wipers off and speed up again...repeat all the way there, on a busy M40 and then five miles of London traffic

I'm having this same problem on my 2001 bravo jtd_100.

This same fuse blows intantly as i turn the key on. Even with the windscreen wiper off

Any thoughts? Urgently.
