Hi guys 'n' gals.

Windscreen washers have packed up and got anew set. How ahrd is it to change these???

Also, how the hell do you get the sound proofing carpet off the bonnet??? TRhen how do you get it back on, or how will the car sound with it off??

Any help on this would be great...

Cheers All

Did this recenly on mine and it's dead easy. Sound-proofing is held on by plastic clips. You can get a special removal tool from Halfords ot use a golfers Tee-pry or just brute force. Once it's off you'll be able to push the old washer jets out from behind and the hoses just pull off.

carpet? what carpet? mine doesnt have any carpet.
no need to buy new washer nozzels, just take broken washers off, (pop them out with a screwdriver from underneath) then take them indoors and clean and poke them with pins, put them back on and they're remarkably reborn! i washed them in warm soapy water too. worked a treat. they now work better than ever.

Higher spec models have a sound-proofing "carpet" on the underside of the bonnet.

If my higher-spec. 5 cylinder Marea really was noisier than a lower-spec. 4 cylinder vesion, then I'd want my money back - carpet or no carpet! lol

carroll are you saying that your marea is quiter than a 4cyl? i know my marea isn't :)

this "carpet" just help keep road noise down.

Marea, why settle for less?

Well, mine's only got a K&N panel filter within the standard airbox, so no fancy induction kit to make alot of noise, lol.

I hav'nt driven another Marea, but my car's definately quieter/more refined than a friend's 1.8 Brava ELX I used to drive alot
- though I admit that seemed quiet enough compared to a similar Golf/Almera, e.t.c. and also had the 'carpet' under the bonnet.

I'd had thought that one of the main reasons that Fiat offered a 5 cylinder option as the top-of-the-range engine for their family saloon was to give this type of car that bit extra refinement over a four, (as well as the increased performance it provides) otherwise, what's the point?

extra refinement yes, quiter i would say no.

Maybe it mostly depends on the year - mine's one of the later, (2001 M.Y.) Euro.3 versions with climate, but without the lecy sunroof.

I've read that all post 1999 series 2 versions of Brava/o and Marea were quieter/rode better than the earlier cars, with the Marea getting a further raft of revisions from 10/2000 onwards.

No doubt body style has some bearing on it as well - I would'nt expect a Weekend version to be quite as quiet as an otherwise identical saloon, because they never are.
