Windows 7 pre-orders

lol, 5 years ago I used to be a hardcore PC guy. I knew the latest motherboards/graphics cards/sound cards... the lot.

Eventually I just lost interest, and now when i research again everything has moved on dramatically

I remember when the 7800GTX came out, and it was the best graphics card money could buy, and now its rubbish.

Windows Vista still seems brand new to me, now you're all moving to Windows 7 i feel left behind.

:yeahthat: Exactly the same for me, I built this PC when Vista came out and have had it on since then even though I hated it at the time I've just become too lazy to take it off. Given how little I play games nowadays, I'm actually very tempted to go all the way back to Win2k - I'm sure I had that running for about 9 months solid without having to restart my PC once. Nowadays I have to restart on a weekly basis because for reasons unknown Vista occasionally decides it's forgotten where my wireless NIC is.

If I ever get around to building a new machine I'll put 7 on it, but in the meantime if it ain't broke I won't fix it.

Unless of course you want DX10 / DX11 for gaming :) - I have been on Vista Ultimate 64 bit for a few months now; every time I use my XP machine, it winds me up ;)
If you're a hard nut gamer then fair enough - but most of the time Vista winds me up when it can't handle basic applications that used to work (like 20 years ago!!)

Strikes me you've made the best move - just pretend MS never released it :D

Too right (y) Haven't had to reinstall XP Pro in like 6 years :spin: (even if my hardware is looking very dated ;))

I never bothered with Vista at all, except for a brief dabble to see what it was like. Of the four PCs I have in the house, 3 are still running XP which serves well enough for the mainly low powered uses I have for them. However, the new machine I just built needs a 64 bit OS to get the most out of it or I'd still just use XP.

W7 is good though. The only problem I've had with it is that it sometimes just randomly dumps you out of a game for no apparent reason. I've had this with both Fallout 3 and UT3. It doesn't stop everything though. The task manager always recovers you back to the OS with no fuss. No doubt things like this will stop happening once it matures a bit more and games are patched with W7 specific updates.

And £45 is a very good price for a whole new OS really. I'm going to buy it.

Out of all the software I don't own , I do ensure I keep a legit copy of my OS...

Decided in the end not to do anything, I only bought this copy of Vista Ultimate 64 bit recently, so will keep it going for another year or so, then take a view on the prices of Windows 7 then :)
