Hi All, my first post as an owner of just a few months - so please bear with me!

I have an 02 plate Punto sporting and all of a sudden the drivers side window has stopped working. I've checked fuses, currently have the door card off (in doing so also found the check strap had sheared in half?!) and having checked on a meter there appears to be power (9V-ish) going each way through to as far as the motor plug when I operate the switch.

I'm thinking of now getting a cheap regulator/motor to plug in to see if this works and my current one is at fault. Is this the logical next step? And if the motor is the issue, is it a pig to replace motor as I believe it comes as a one-piece with regulator - i.e. do I need to remove the glass in order to do so? The window is currently stuck inoperable in the 'up' position. I have read bits and pieces on other threads but all detailed help is more than appreciated.

Many thanks
Mark

Thanks Andy.

My only thought along those lines was that if its a power issue, would the near side window also fail? I plugged in another regulator motor last night and that didnt work either, so if at least some juice is getting through to the motor plug then would a new battery be the next step? It apparently had a new one a couple of years ago. Thanks again

Thanks for the help guys.
I bought a secondhand motor, which works perfectly direct from the battery but not when plugged in in place of the current motor, which suggests that its not the regulator motor at fault. Put a meter on the connector block in the door and on the motor plug and there appears to be enough power coming through up and down, so the switch must be working.
Probably a bit dim but I wouldnt know what I do to test the earth, so I'm having an electrical specialist take a look at the weekend, I'll let you know if he comes up with anything thats not already catalogued within these threads.
Cheers

Hello all,

I have the same problem with the driver side window. I have a punto active sport 1.2 and found that the only way to fix it so far it to get a new window and light pannel fitted this is costing me around £30 a time and I am already onto my second one in the 4 years I have owned the car :/ I hope this as helped but if anyone else knows how to fix this then please let me know its driving me crazy!!

Amy :D

Cant help but i had a punto a few weeks ago that failed to drop the window.
On investigation and having taken the door card off still no power but on connecting to another window cassette motor it worked.
I then chopped the cable on the fitted window cassette so i could drop the glass so as to remove the failed motor.
Replaced window motor cassette rewired and it didnt work.
wtf?
Tracked it down to the internal cable going into the plug that goes into the motor was broken but plastic sleeving still intact.
Tell that to your customer when youve broken his original motor and spent over an hour in time locating the fault.:D
