Ive also ran 2 Dell laptops for years with no problems. I dont get where you all get this anti-Dell vibe from

Theyre ok ish for everyday i suppose, but for serious gamers and people in the PC gaming circle they are seriously ****!

They are really poor to upgrade, and there are much better specced PCS for dell prices.

Especially ones bought from PC world are notorious for being poor

It's probably the same kind of myth similar to the one which says all Microsoft products are rubbish. This is normally spread by Apple owners...;)

You'd NEVER buy a Dell from PC World ;)

Also Alienware are considered good for gamers... owned by Dell ;) The XPS series are **** hot for gamers also, though i agree they're crap to upgrade and not exactly cheap. The new XPS thats in the pipeline blows just about everything out the water ;)

ahhh.... but thats only recently! and yes now alienware laptops/pcs suck :( stupid dell :( they reuined a fantastic brand (n)

That isn't a scratch, it isn't dead pixels it's a little bug that's crawled between the panel and the back light, it's happened on my 23" dell display, 17" Samsung & NEC displays! This doesn't effect just dell it's all TFTs, on the other two displays it's not too bad cause the bug died near the edge of the display, however that one died in the centre of the display.

For the record dell boxes are okay, but their displays are feature rich and relatively cheap :p

I can't understand the hatred some people have for Dell! I work in an It dept for a group of companies and everything here is dell, I support over 30 dell laptops, and arround 250 PC's every one a Dell, in the last year we've had one HD fail (due to heat) (users fault she kept putting her coat on top of the case and wedging her handbag between it and a radiator) and one backlight for a laptop that gets some serious hammer!

Dell are value for money etc etc. It's like cars if you want to go fast and race everything a Ford Ka in it's most basic model wouldn't be up to the job ;) You'd have to spend more money and get something else!

well dell laptops are ok i suppose, my dads office never have problems with the laptops accept when he drops them
but the desktops and such, christ, biggest pile of crap, poorly made and badly designed, i get tons in regulary to fix with problems of blown componenets, it wont start up blah blah blah........... drives me up the wall, my mate at his pc shop refuses dells and says ill do you a new one lol, my dads company asks me to build them pcs now as theyve had all there dell pcs **** up and there server, well it cost about 20k+ and it ****ed up with in a few months, not happy...........

J

dell are ok if your looking for cheap stuff like most companies, i have been using dell computers at work for years, and the only one to fail is my current one, and thats in the last 2 months of its 3 year warranty and dell are replacing the motherboard and ram free.

of course my old company used the dell servers, they were a bit more prone to breaking, but they are getting better and the high end servers arent so bad now.

as for dead pixels, its a bummer, i had 2 TFT monitors and never had a problem, on my HDTV though ... one week and theres a dead pixel, its hard to spot unless you are looking at a plain coloured screen.

The pc i'm on now is a dell and its been as good as gold now for over 4 years, my laptop is a dell and its been brilliant as well. My dads company all use dell laptop and dell pc's, never had a problem with them. The server they got is a bit dodgey but it is donkeys years old and could really do with buying a new one! They have more problems with the apples they have running the design software on.

Unless i was gonna build my own pc, i cant think of any other brand i'd buy instead....

I'm still on my first TFT, had it for a year or so and so far its ok

Dell are fine for office applications. They suck at gaming.

I've supported an IT network with hundreds of Dell servers and thousands of Dell PCs. Not many problems but there lies your problem. Dell like the company orders of thousands. They don't really give a damn about the small business or home user.

Anyway it was originally about TFTs. I swear by CRTs. Sony Trinitron CRTs to be exact. Got a 17 and 21 on my desk. Image is as clear and bright as the day they were bought. The 17 is over 10 years old now.

Hyundai Image Quest are the best TFTs to get currently, with high refresh rate, high contrast and high reliability at a low price.
