why is 1.2 faster than the 1.4????

why is 1.2 faster than the 1.4????

Because it has more valves per cylinder and has a bigger BHP figure.

The 1.4 12V Engine has 3 valves per cylinder and is only Singlepoint Injection = 70bhp

The 1.2 16V Engine has 4 valves per cylinder and is Multipoint Injection = 82bhp

they are much of a muchness really. Not much different on top speed.

Why do you ask?

Actually, according to 'What Car?' the 1.4 12v has 80 BHP and the 1.2 16v (80sx) has 84 BHP but apart from that I agree.

I have experience of both the 1.4 and the 1.2, the 1.2 accelerates much better across all gears - even 5th. And bonus - the 1.2 isn't anywhere near as thirsty!

Also, may have just been my 1.4, but in damp weather its acceleration was worse than on a dry day - nothing to do with grip, it just seemed to have less power. The 1.2 does not seem to be affected by the weather - apart from its louder (only slightly) in the cold but I think thats common for all cars.

If someone shows me a video where a 1.2 is going faster then a 1.4 i will believe. otherwise i've tried my 1.4 with a 1.2 of my cousin... and non of what all of you say it's true. only the engine noise. try it some day and you'll see...

id put my 1.2 up against your 1.4 if that would prove it lol

1.2 vs a 1.4

money on the 1.2 every day of the week!!

but don't take my word for it.. how about a pic... puts nealry all 1.2's to shame!!

They're both slow.

But not as slow as my Alfa 147 1.6 - that really was Brian The Snail.

If anyone reads the Parkers test online for a "bog standard" 1.2 vs 1.4 then the 1.2 comes in at 0.9seconds faster

they might be slow in comparison to bigger engines RR, but if you compare the 1.2 to other 1.2's its none too shy.

the 1.2 may not be a whole lot faster than the 1.4 overall, but it is alt nippier than the 1.4. took my cousin to london in mine (he has a 1.4) and he was supprised, and that was when it was running rough as sin...

The fiat 1.2 is pretty good. its a newer design with more valves than the older 1.4
I also believe that the 1.2 is slightly lighter than the 1.4, but i may be wrong. Either way, my money would be on the 1.2

well, if someone with a 1.2 wants to come to portugal... we can check which one is faster. lol even if its slower i just still love my 1.4. Awesome engine for the age it has. Does anybody know how much is 190 Km/h in mph?

well 60 MPH is about 100kmph so about 105/110 MPH.... which isn't that great.. my skoda did that!

not really. if 60 mph are 100 km/h... 190km/h are 114 mph. So its not so bad at all...lol did your 1.2 ever reached this speed while original?! Whats your skoda's engine?

where in portugal? i will taking my 1.2 to lisbon later this year!

My 1.2 did more than that when standard, but its now on a punto box so would struggle to get there, it may if i was really pushing it, but even i wouldnt take it that hard.

if i was going to Portugal you would be on

I still love the 1.2's!!
I have owned a 1.2 and now own a HGT. The HGT is far superior BUT the 1.2 is soooo much fun to drive. Very quick off the mark due to the engine being so small and acrrying no weight. Suprised a few HGT owners off the mark (but they soon caught up).
Cracking little engines and none too thirsty either.

I'm in lisbon... if someone wants to pass by...lol a little bit far from there. How about a bravo meet in lisbon?
