General Why have cental locking & e/windows packed up?

Hi, I hope someone out there can help me. My battery packed up today but fortunatly a neighbour kindly jump started my Punto 60SX (1998). I then drove it to Halfords to get a new battery. I noticed on the way there that neither of the electic windows would work. A very nice man a Halfords installed the battery for me which solved the starting problem but the windows still don't work. When I got home I noticed the central locking was no longer working either. Has a fuse been blown or is it more serious? What can be done to fix the problem?

eh,have you checked the fuses[?]with the fuse you will see a strip of metal and if it is broken the fuse is blown.its the 1st thing to check before looking at anything else

Things are getting a little strange...

I went out to the car this morning all ready to start checking the fuses but to my amazement the c/locking worked fine. I then started up the engine and the windows worked fine too so by this point I was pleasantly confused!? I went on a 10 or 15 minute journey and closed the windows and locked the doors when I arrived. After that I opened the window a little bit and set off. This is where it gets weird, by the time I got home both the windows and central locking were not working again. The battery is now brand new, the engine starts fine and all the other electrics seems to be fine. Does this still sound like a problem with a fuse or is it something else?

i would check you dont have dodgy connections on the fuses then if they are okay you will need to check the other connections,if they all stop at once then i guess its a main loom connector that is loose

I don't know what I'm talking about really, but could it be that the solenoids that, afaik, store the power for the central locking and e/w's have gone up the creek?

The lock on the rear right door on mine never used to come up with the rest when I first got the car, but now, since developing a new key-turning technique, it always does(!)

yeah, my passenger door doesn't lock if you turn the drivers keyhole slowly, but does if you turn it quickly or use the alarm......hmmmmmmmm[^]

ive had that before,its generally down to the switch on the lock.you can take them off and fiddle with the connections but its fiddly and can make it worse.just dont turn the key slowly

Sounds like a keyswitch contact problem. little cleaning job next time youv'e got the door trim off
