This will show you how bored I get at work. We have just had a heated discussion about petrol tanks. Some cars have the filler cap on the left, and some on the right, but we cant decide which is the corrct side. I say mine is ( on the drivers side) as you pull up to the pumps, nice and close and the tank is handy. Others say it should be on the passenger side, so that you can open the drivers door fully to get out and the tank is still handy for the pumps...help !!!!

Second question....... we did some reaserch on countries that drive on the same side as us, and no surprise that most of them are either in the commonwelth or used to be, cyprus, australia, falklands etc. But Japan also drives on the same side as us, does anyone know why?

Imagine the queues at the petrol stations if all cars had the filler on the same side !

Petrol Cap

I thought it was to do with the side of the road that people drove when petrol pumps used to be literally at the side of the road and a man dressed in sepia coloured clothes and a cap who wlaked very quickly came and filled your car with petrol, oil and serviced the wife all at the same time.

Therefore Roots group cars had the filler on the right hand side as you looked at it and Johnny foreigner had it on the other side. For example, my Jag is on the right and the Bravo is on the left. It probably doenst work so much nowadays as a theory.

Secondly, with the side of the road thingy I thoughtthat was to do with riding with your sword on the left and therefore drawn and used with the right hand side so you passed that way in a duel or battle - right hand to right hand.

This leads then onto a theory about the countries who drive on the right are hard bastards (the British, the Japs etc) and those who drive on the left are snivelling weeds and crap in battle (the French, th e Italians etc) This is not opinion I was basing it on fact!

Well it was a theory to me he he he - no offence to anyone!

Doh - cocked that last paragraph up! Them that drive on the left are the hard bastards!

Re: Re: Who is right and who is wrong?

It never ceases to amaze me the number of people who queue up at petrol pumps to get their filler cap nearest to the pump, when there are no queues on the other side of the pump. All pumps now come with hoses long enough to reach the far side of the car if you park at the "wrong side" of the pump. Therefore the side the filler cap is on irrelevant.

I used to agree...

Jim I would have agreed with you a little while ago but when I had my last car I tended to pull up and pull the hose across the boot of my car and fill up to save waiting but once my boot got covered in sticky tar off the hose and another time it got covered in oil - so I am the one who waits in the forecourt for people to fix their hair, check their change, light up their fags, and then **** about with their seatbelts before driving away from a fuel pump after they have taken 20 mins in the garage to pay for the damn stuff!

Re: I used to agree...

AAAAAAAARRRRGGGHHHH!

Nikki, Where do you fill up?
Hopefully nowhere near me if you are lighting fags in a filling station!
Has nobody explained the internal combustion engine principle?
It uses a flamable liquid called petroleum (we call it petrol)
It is that watery, smelly liquid you get at filling stations.
It is flamable as I said before, and it is not good to light fags in its presence.

Mark (LOL)

Re: Re: I used to agree...

Nikki was saying that she waits for people to light their fags etc, not that she does it. She might, but we don't know!

Nice theory about the hard bastards. I thought Jags had a petrol cap on each side. How does that fit the theory. May be it was only the old Jags like the police used to use. Sort of good cop, bad cop.
