In our case it was an incorrectly set tensioner. There’s a procedure to do these correctly. Don’t accept the noise tell them they should know how to set it, the engines been out since the 80s and isn’t known to be overly complex
On the Cambelt or aux belt?

On the Cambelt or aux belt?
It was the timing belt (cambelt). If you tighten the alternator in too loose of a position, or not straight, I suppose it could make some noise and cause a bit of issue so you could try to ensure this isn't the case before having the timing belt tensioner re-set. I used a large breaking bar to 'hold' back the alternator with enough force (being very careful) as I tightened it. Be careful what you lean against for leverage though to not damage other parts

@Adam1984 See my answer in your parallel (duplicate?) thread, here https://www.fiatforum.com/threads/cambelt-and-aux-belt.515986/... which largely says same as SB1500 above about checking the tension and tightening the alternator belt :)

And yes, there is no tensioner on the alternator belt in your case - as seen in your video on the other thread... (on models with aircon there is a tensioner as its a longer belt that drives the a/c as well as alternator). And, in your other thread you confirm no stop/start, which also means there is no clutch on your alternator either.

I took it back today, and they re looked at the tension..did something said it's fine and still there is another noise. It's not loud, but know it's there. They then looked at the alternator and said it's the clutch in the alternator. And the belt does have a few rips and says both of these could be causing the noise. Think this could be wrong?
It's not the alternator if it's the same sound as mine. I took off the alternator and started it and no difference. Got used to it now anyway

So you think there is some underlying problem or think it's just normal? I am getting a new drive belt today as I had the new Cambelt done but not the drive belt so at least that will be done.

I think it's normal, it's really annoying but I've accepted that I can't do anything about it as I replaced everything and did everything correctly, now the gearbox bearings are gone so I'm going to have to take the box out and replace the bearings, that's much more of an issue now

So. Just had my drive belt replaced. And as told made no difference to the sound.

He checked the alternator and said it's good, said there is no freewheel clutch as I was told previously that it did from another garage.

I have done two more videos for the sound. It's still little louder in person. Does it sound normal and just have to live with it? Again it's only whining between 1.5K and 2K RPM when wanting to change gears.

So with belt off, the noise was unchanged..

That's a positive👍

Ruling out pulley, belt and Alternator

(some pulleys are rubber damped, and can get noisy with age)
