Yeah, Hammerite Smooth is fine all over the engine, apart from the exhaust. I have used it on blocks and sumps, and pandasport painted his 16v cylinder head extension white with the stuff :)

Progress looks good (y) Compressor is the same as mine :D Halfords jobbie?

Can I ask a quick question about your dismantling? Its to do with my rebuild and the shells. The middle support for the crank has a half bearing, and the other half has some thrust washers as well. Were they welded onto the bearing on the 16V, or were they loose?

Cheers,

Krisitan

Also just noticed you have a mix of Class A and Class B pistons in your set, which seems a bit odd.

Class B pistons will be slightly larger than Class A pistons.

Think all standard sized pistons take standard rings, but oversized definitely take larger rings. And if your bores WERE class A, a class B piston may be to close at the skirt and wear or seize

Yeah, must use an etch primer on aluminium or the paint simply won't take. Good idea to use a crude solvent (like white spirit) followed by acetone or spirit wipe.

did use etch, just 2pac doesnt seem to like petrol and stuff methinks, had a look at lennys 16v pistons and he has 2 different types the same as me so must just be the way they were *shrugs*
compiling a list of new parts for the rebuild if anyone could kindly point out anything that i have missed out on the list before i go and spend lots of money would be greatly appreciated! :p

punto 75 head gasket set
punto 85 piston rings
punto 75 sump
punto 75 sump plug
punto 85 big end bearings
punto 75 oil pump
punto 75 water pump
punto 75 spesso head gasket
punto 75 head bolts set
punto 75 timing belt kit(tensioners, aux belt, cam belt)
punto 75 camshaft seal
punto 75 main shells(worth replacing? mine look good but better safe than sorry?)
punto 75 valve springs
punto 75 camshaft seal
punto 75 crankshaft seal

Looks a pretty comprehensive list!

Is there any need to do the springs, if not uprating them?

My big end shells were about £35, not too bad....main bearings were about £70. Just depends how much work you want to do, how much you want to spend etc.

Why stuff liek the sump etc though?

I have spent about £300 excluding pistons, and that just a basic overaul

if you are doing all that though, may as well chuck a new thermostat in there ;)

You getting anything lightened or polished?

Kristian

new sump as the one that came with the 75 engine is a rusty bugger and needs oil return going exactly where its rusted! my mate works for hewland engineering so he said he could have a play around lightening the flywheel for me :), and just going for some mild porting on the inlet and head nothing too major! will cross valve springs of the list then as im not uprating them.

not looking forward to the megasquirt side tho lol, but gazzamans being a real legend and offered to build my ms and loom :D

just want the car back on the road tbh miss the attention it got lol :(

havent really been able to find out any prices as dont have eper on cd and ff's copy never ever seems to work with me.

If you do get ePER going, you'll find it pretty expensive ;)

At least with the 1368 build and 1242 16v rebuild lots of parts are fiat only.

£1000-110 on main and big end bearings (if you know what you need...the parts nos on the bearings dont work half the time)

£135 on oil pump

£40-60 on water pump...though 8v is a lot cheaper from factors

Rings are £25 from fiat....THINK thats per 4x set, but may be per piston!!

1368cc gasket set is £45 from shop4 parts

Main crank oil seal is £12

yada yada....its best to price up what you need and what, want, and hwt you'd like :D ... if you can get stuff from factors so much the better :)

What the CR drop from 8v to 16v pistons? If its a fair bit it may be worth fitting a metal gasket, as I'm sure they are more reliable, and if CR drop is extreme it may help balance it out :)

Did you notice a coloured dot painted on either crank?

Krisitan

will send fluffy an email and see what he comes back to me with on the prices, dont think i saw a dot on either side of the crank but its in a large drum of oil at the mo will have a look the next time i drag it out :p

just been shopping around for injectors and not to sure what to get was looking at eclipse 275cc injectors but not sure if theyre overkill/underkill, any advice on howto work out what injectors im going to need lads?!?!

My 1368cc runs the stock injectors (213cc) and i see about 75% duty cycle at full load. Not sure what i run, but is >100bhp (105-110 maybe), with >97lb torque. So what gazzaman says shoud be 'rite!

Go to large and you'll never idle properly (lumpy and very rich)

Kristian

If your using MS id say use any injector between 250cc- 350cc but closer to the lower its all dependent how the ms can do the fueling if that makes sense say on an emerald management system you set it up prior to mapping and the ecu compensates for it second opinion on that pls j333evo can prob explain better.
If you still got the 16v block and crank im interested see if i can do a 1300cc N/A on carbs lol dont forget you will also need a 2 bar map sensor if your using a gt15 turbo you will have great! GREAT bottom end torque mate. Dont forget the vernier pully use the thick head gasket trust me you will still be able to pull from 20mph in 5th with that low compression Zak.

right small update first off suspension! apex shocks and springs all round 40mm drop still

also found out why my 1108 was running permanently rough

DSC00144.jpg

part of piston snapped away where rings go not as bad as some of the melted cinq pistons ive seen tho

and finally i have x5 low compression van-aaken pistons if anyone wants these give me a shout as they will be going on ebay with the rest of the stuff i have to clear out!

they should be cut in most of the way, and if needed, lapped. Lapping shouldn't take more than 5 mins per valve though  Took me about 2-3 hours to strip, relap, and rebuild the 16V head

Yep, i seen that before  . The lands cracked. Was it only on one of the pistons, or all four. If it was just one, whihc piston? Any signs of det around the piston face?

Get it back on the road ASAP :D
