General Which winter tyres are people going for

I know it's a bit early .... I'm running my winters in the summer and hoping that they'll be worn out by the time winter comes, so I'm looking at replacements, does anyone have any recommendations? I've heard good things about Pirelli's, does anyone have any experience with them? Are they good? :p

My Vredesteins are low on tread hence why they're being run in the summer to wear them out, but the Pirelli reference was a reference to this weekends racing :p

i understand this years compounds are a big improvement worth 2 seconds 60 to 0

however there are reports that they are intolerant of being fitted the wrong way round, intolerant of being run at low pressure and you have to take special care if you are running extreme camber. oh and be careful not to drive over kerbs.
some isolated reports of sudden failure clustered in the Towcester area...
other than that they are cutting edge (y)

Running winters in the summer..? You need '4 Season Tyres' my friend ; )

It's not good practice to run on winter tires inte summer, the rubber is softer so the breaking distance for example will be much longer.

Nah. Just getting some extra mileage out of them, as winter tyres they are done and dusted and at the end if their life, as summer tyres they're still alright.

Yes, I know, I was kidding. Kinda wish I had gone for 'full winters' for the winter not 4S.
Been spoilt by the amazing ride on the PE2 now too.

You are right and nobody knows this better than maxi.
He's just using the tyres up to be economical as they don't have enough tread left to be good in any kind if snow.
Right maxi?
This thread has taken on a life of its own lol.

I'm well aware of that and drive accordingly don't worry :) The sipes are nearly gone, so as winter tyres their life is at an end. With the sipes gone they're not quite so bad

Does your insurance know you're running winter tyres in summer??

Dom

Got nothing to do with them, they're OEM size.

Are you sure? If you're in an accident I don't think they'll like it..

Dom

They're legal, thats all that matters.

Don't forget its fully recommended that if you can only afford one set of tyres then ideally it should be Winters in the UK as they'll be at their best more than summers with our weather.

Let's not exaggerate too much i think its dangerous to drive in summer with winters as they will melt in temps above 15c and you would have to change them far more often. If you look at 80% of cars in uk they have summers all year long and i doubt that will change in the near future unless you live in the welsh riviera or ben nevis = )

They don't 'melt' above 15 Ahmett

Winters in the summer are always a lot safer than summers in the winter, although both will never be ideal.

Good Maxi lives in the Welsh Riviera then
