General Which winter tyres are people going for

today is supposed to be the coldest November the 5th on record, don't feel that cold to me though

Coldest or wettest? I'm sure someone at work today said it was going to be the wettest. Felt nippy on my walk from work this evening (on the face) but not that cold in the shelter of the garage. I'm sure there must have been colder like you day.

no not wet, the lady on weather said it will be dry for bonfires but because of this there will be no cloud to keep us warm,

edit i had a google an all i could find was the mail saying coldest in 14 years, maybe the weather lady just says what she read in the news paper :chin:

Colder?

It's only 1 degrees C outside.

It's not here. The forecast for the next 7 days reads mostly min temps 7 degrees going up to max of 12 degrees.
It is a cold start this morning though.

I found last winter that the weather was so up and down temp wise that I could have changed wheels every 5 days or so.
The Caravelle really squirms around the corners on the winter tyres at temps in the teens. Must be all the Wesley Snipes. :D

Looking at the weather there's still no real sign of properly cold weather so if you've not put your winter tyres on yet don't feel you need to! Temps averaging about 7 or so around where I am. I will put my winter tyres on the 500 next week, but only because I need the 500's summers to go on the Panda while the wheels get refurbed.

That'll be interesting, a Panda 4x4 with 16" multispokes. :)

Meanwhile I bust a gut to fit them last weekend, and its now got warmer :bang:

my winters are fitted now, my local tyre yard swapped the wheels over for free (y) (y)

off to Bruges next weekend so may well need them!

it was 6ºC here on the drive home last night and we are regularly seeing 3°C in the mornings now

I have a 500 lounge with 185 55 15 alloys. I have 185 55 15 winter tyres to fit, I just need steel rims. What fiats use that size steel rims? I don't mind alloys, I just need something that will fit.

P.S. to keep winter stuff in one place I've posted your query on this thread.

The steelie thats needed in 15 inch for the 500 is 6J x 98 PCD x E40 whilst in an alloy the offset is E35. I'm not too sure why the offset is different but you probably have a better chance of fitting a thin set of chains (if they were needed) on the E40 => the gap between the tyre wall and the inside arch is slightly bigger.

A steelie existed on the 500 1.4 POP and the nearest Fiat steelie is off a Stilo. Here is a list of the Fiat wheels out there (Click here).

I have a set of steelies that I want to get rid of (Click here) oin 15 that would suit what you're looking for.

The only justification for 15 inch winter tyres on a Fiat 500 is if you want the alloy look since the 14 alloy involves notifyng your insurance company (good luck to you on that). The reason I bought those Stilo steelies was so that it would fit both a standard 500 & a A500. Unfortunately 15s are not specificed as a suitable option in the A500 handbook so technically they're not allowed even though they will fit (& I haven't got a hope of getting clearance from my insurance co.). Those Stilo wheels will also fit a Mito but not the Mito 155TB that I own because of the Brembos - hence the reason what they are of limited value to me. They will fit on the OH's MiTo MJ but she doesn't want steelies on her car. Hence the reason for getting rid of them.

If it was me I would probably try selling those winters to an Abarth guy (some seem to fit 15 x 175/55) - they are not as hung up them not being in the handbook ;). I would then buy a complete set of steelies in 14 inch either off ebay (tyres have to be really good i.e. practically new not half worn) or a new set from mytyres. Alloys wouldn't last long if a lot of salt is been used plus the 14s with the narrower tyre generally perform better than the wider tyres on the 15s.
