Climbing up a shallow hill out of the Metro Center, got stuck behind a 12 plate Audi A5 Tdi who couldn't get up the hill. As you can see it's a MASSIVE hill... ;)

Couldn't get around it to tow it up the hill, to drove up behind it, braced myself against my front bumper and pushed the A5 up the hill. Repeat x4. :bang:

Not sure how much a 12 plate A5 costs, but must be disappointing to get rescued by a £700 Marea :devil:

You know in the infamous london snow in in 2009, i was in my Audi a2 with goodyear eagle f1's (have to rank as the worst tires for winter ever!), and i was trying to climb the hammersmith flyover on the A4 (londoners whill know it well) westbound and i could barely make it! what was most scary was that was an hgv behind me horning at me and i was very scared that it would rear end me by force and ruin my car!!!! I was toggling on and off the ESP as i felt it was ruining my progress because it was interfereing and giving me no power so i kept it off and slowly slowly made it up the hill. After that the rest was easy, i went home to windsor at 40 mph instead of 70 mph and there were hardly any cars on the road anyway (i think it was the most empty i ever saw the m4, this was about midnight on a Sunday night with the snow as an additional factor! ). I took the opportunity to try out my winter rally driving skills and i understeered (in a controlled way) on a few deserted roads that i knew and was testing braking distances (they were really bad). Safe to say, when i made it home i was actually quite relieved that my car and i made it back home in one piece.

you have to remember Audi drivers are the new BMW driver, its probably a company vehicle with a underpowered tdi unit in a car that on the portly side

Not quite bumper to bumper. I parked about 2 feet from the A5's arse, then got out the car, put my foot on the Marea's front bumper, and pushed against the A5's tailgate.

I'm going to look for some rubber or foam that I can hang over the bumper to allow for bumper-to-bumper pushing :D

I've got the tow bar and tow-rope for dragging stuff. (y)

Well for me in South Wales, cold weather tyres have been nigh on pointless so far this winter. Apart from one day which was very slippery I could probably count less than 10 days cold enough to justify winter rubber.

My wife (who drives the van the most) is most put out at the shame of driving with steel wheels :D

Err, it's a van. And it is grey. That's like complaining that you are going out with Anne Widdecombe and she hasn't put her heels on.

I shall ignore the fact that on many days so far this winter the temperature has been low enough to mean that your Widdecombe, I mean van, will have been safer for being on winter tyres.

Blasphemer!! it's more than a van!! :p

You forget though that most of the days this winter I would have had better grip with summer tyres. Although we do know how much better winters perform over summers at cold temps, I'm unsure how much better good summer tyres perform over winter tyres at temps over 10 degrees. Certainly at over 13 degrees I can feel the van squirm on its winters.

That's just its embarrassment at being a van.
 
That is a £42,000 "van" though. I like the california and may even get one in a few years for family trips.

Guys wouldnt it be better and cheaper to have snowchains if things get really bad with summer tires instead of this winter dilemma? ENGLAND IS REALLY NOT THAT COLD in the winter!!! (i am not talking about the welsh mountains maxi!!)
 
Well, I have to say the roads down here in Devon have been pretty much permanently wet for the past two months, so the winter tyres have come in useful as they grip really well still (compared to the standard Conti EcoContact tyres).

Not quite what they were intended for but at least I am getting some benefit!:)

Oh dear those Conti Eco's are about the worst tires i have driven on = )
