The FLI Trap 12 isn't a bass tube... its an active enclosure...

It's designed by VIBE, one of the leaders in sub enclosures, and from my experience with mine, the sound is great.

Knowing what music you listen to in the main would be a great help... if rock is your thing, a punchy 10" would be best, with deep R'n'B, a 15" would. A 12" gives the best compromise for variety.

Also, what car do you have?

I have a Fiat punto 1.2 2000 model. And I would use it mainly to play Hip Hop. Sorry about this stupid question but can you tell me what a sub enclosur is and what it does exactly?

An enclosure is basically an airtight box of a specific internal volume where a hole is cut for the sub to sit. There are different types of enclosure available, e.g. sealed, ported. The internal volume is determined by the sub manufacturer's recommendations. If the internal volume isn't correct, then the sub won't play at its best. They can be bought or self built.

If you connected components to the amps in the packages then the sub would be underpowered. All the amps seem to be slightly underpowering the subs in the packages to begin with.

Of the deals in this thread, id say the FLI Trap 10 is the best, as the internal amp and sub will be well matched.

Any suggestion on the sub package then guys?

I think this package is a little bit pricey :(

I also wanted to ask, the amps used in the sub packages, are they good enough to be used with components as well, i.e. can i connect a sub and components to the amps?

The link's dead..............

The number of speakers you can use with an amp depends upon the number of channels on the amp. 1 (mono) channel can only play a single speaker (a sub), a 2 channel amp can play a pair of speakers or if the 2 channels can be bridged, then you can bridge the 2 channels together to create a single channel for a sub. You can also get 4 and 6 channel amps as well.

You can connect a set of speakers and a sub to a 2 channel amp. But it would sound pants if the amp wasnt powerful enough.

Don't you need a tri mode adaptor though?

I only have experience with the FLI Trap 12, but it fits nicely in the boot (and only takes up about 1/3 of it...)

I have the NFS:U2 soundtrack, featuring the likes of chingy, xzibit etc and it plays that brilliantly, but dont expect massive volume i.e. at cruises if that's your scene.

I also had a JBL BTX250 Bass tube, but that did sound quite sh**e, and costs nearly twice as much...

to be honest, the best of the bunch seems to be the FLI Trap 12 for the money.

Thanks guys for all your feedback, really helpful.

I've decided that becuase i'm not in a hurry to buy a sub and amp straight away, that I am going to hold on for maybe a week or two and see how things go. I've seen some excellent deals on ebay and if you guys want me to post them here, let me know.

I've also decided that I am ONLY going to be buying an Amp that only powers the Sub, no extra speakers connected.

After all I have a 50x4 Pioneer head unit which is pretty useful in itself :) and I could always use that to power the components in the future! and if I have to, i'll buy an amp for those :)

Thanks again guys for the useful feedback, much appreciated

Id definately recommend an active bass enclosure. I use a Vibe CBR12 which is the same sort of thing to the Fli Trap. It doesnt only sound good but is just dead easy to fit and set up because the amp is built in and is well-matched to the sub. If you bought separate items they may not match too well. You also dont have to find a place for the amp to go ;)

Guys I was just wonderng what the different between a 10" and a 12" sub that big, either way its just numbers to me lol, what you reckon?

Also, what is the average power from both? i.e. are most 10"s 200w or is that a bit low?

It varies by make. 12" is bigger, so moves more air, giving more bass. Having said that, because its bigger, it takes more power to move it and the reaction is slightly slower (i.e. not as punchy as a 10" but still better than a 15")

10" subs will generally not go as deep, but will be better matched to styles like rock/ fast house, which doesn't generally go down as deep, but will cope with fast beats...

iirc, the FLI 12" has a max power of 1000w, and the 10" has a max power of 800w, but RMS wise this is about 350/400wrms for the 12" and 250wrms for the 10".
