Hello everyone :) so recently my alternator have gone and I have read to get the genuine denso alternator to avoid any further problems. My car is 06 1.4l with A/C I'm pretty sure mine is DAN517. I can get DAN599 few pounds cheaper and I was wondering if anyone have this alternator in their grande punto and can confirm it will be correct part. As I don't want to put the alternator in and then find out that there is still battery light or any other problems.

You'd get more replies and more help if you helped us.
I just had to Google the two part numbers to identify what you were asking. Links to the units would have helped.
I found these:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Denso-DAN599-Alternator-Suitable-For-Fiat-Ford-/222424770174
If you look at the pics, you will see that the mounting method looks quite different, so these do not appear interchangeable.
On the original should be a label, with part numbers and specs. Read it and find a listing that mentions theirs as equivalent. You could Google Denso and find their catalogue, to confirm what they say is the correct part for your car, then search and find one.

Fiat 51700675 = Denso DAN998 = 70amp NON AC (http://denso.elcome.co.uk/ecat/pages/image.aspx?image=104947)

Fiat 51714794 = Denso DAN517 = 70amp +AC (http://denso.elcome.co.uk/ecat/pages/image.aspx?image=102934)

Fiat 51859037 = Denso DAN517 = 70amp +AC (later version cars) (http://denso.elcome.co.uk/ecat/pages/image.aspx?image=102934)

Denso also list a DAN599 105amp version which has the same mounting position (http://denso.elcome.co.uk/ecat/pages/image.aspx?image=104510)

Fiat 51727333 = Denso DAN1005 = 105amp (16v 1.4 engines) (http://denso.elcome.co.uk/ecat/pages/image.aspx?image=104976)

zeewulf Thank you really appreciate your help ! As in the denso catalogue listed the alternator fit in my grande punto ? And as you said the only difference between the dan517 and dan599 seems to be the amp output which isn't any problem.

When changing the alternator I discovered that there was cheap aftermarket one fitted so no wonder why I had the battery light and no power steering problem now and then, hopefully I won't have this issue again also I will be ordering the drainage pipe to at least minimise the water that goes on to the alternator. Managed to buy the alternator new for £40 so happy as that was one of the cheapest repairs in my punto ?

So which one did you buy in the end the 70amp one or the 105amp version ?
