I haven't posted for a while but glad to see the forum is still going strong.

Finally we have bought another car and so now free of the shackles of my girlfriends moaning I am free to play with uno as a toy / side project/ first try at modifying.

The car is a standard uno 1.0ie K reg with 75k on the clock. In good nick. Quite a bit spent when it was g/fs run about. Basically I am looking for suggestions as a sensible route into modifying the car on a reasonable budget (say a round grand over the course of the project). I have some not extensive knowledge of cars. No modification experience but access to tools / garage space and would like to do some/most of the work myself.(if feasible)

6 months ago we had the head gasket replaced. and also 4 new shock absorbers. Theres a long mot on it. I'm looking more for performance/handing improvements over ridiculous exhausts and oversized alloys (i'm not 17 and i don't like happy hardcore or doing burnouts in carparks).

All help/advice appreciated.

you might want to consider changing the rubber bushes for poly urethane, certainly more progressive and a better handling solution, if youve only changed the dampers, maybe a spring upgrade with a 30mm drop, not too much but will certainly allow you a range of decent fiat alloys from 13x4.5, 13x5.5, 14x5.5 or if you find a good deal 15x6.5 on 195/45/15 tyres, which are not too overbearing and fill out the arches nicely,

not being too familiar with the mk2 ie variants i presume its electronic injection with an airflow meter and air box? if so a reasonable idea is a universal cone filter bolted on. from the ones i have seen theres a fair bit of space under the bonnet so siting it for cold air is not a problem.

at the other end a good backbox that you can fit yourself, not too loud either is about £100, or you could try finding a 70sx/turbo and taking that one, for the tailpipe

change the front bumper for a higher spec model, say a turbo, and you have foggys built in

hope theres a start in ther for you!

Styling - Dont get a body kit, they are overpriced and overrated for Unos. The turbo bumpers look decent and suit the car perfect. make sure you bodycolour them tho!. For a spoiler, you can get some decent lip ones that look perfect, dont go for an alloy one. The uno can fit upto 15" alloys without mods to the arches although i recon I could have got 16" on. Lowering to 60mm looks great.

engine - get an induction kit/air filter. Greens do one which I had. Sounded nice :p

look at www.needforspeed.co.uk . they have everthing
