We tried putting it there but the car body just raises up and the wheel stays put (due to the suspension i guess)

We jacked it quite high (placing the jack near the front wheel arch) to the point where the back wheel was off the ground but the front wheel still was not.

The sill seam slots into the jack, there should be a guide groove missing out of the sill at each end to 'guide' you. The back will come up first, its lighter, but keep winding. That or buy a trolley jack.

Have the car facing up a slight incline.

The jack will work fine though, just jack it some more as said already. You are placing it up near the front wheel and not in the middle are you?

What you mean something like this?

The front of the car is far enough off the ground to get the wheel on and off but look at the back wheel!
