Hi, I have a 2007 Grande Punto 1.4. I had belt replaced at 59k (kms). Just hit 71 and it snapped. Is a 1.4 8v safe or not? Thanks.
So what you lost the car? What on earth happened? Did you speak to anyone about this?

Wife driving, went into safe mode and engine light came on orange. I drove it last night to see whats up. Engine stopped. Tried to start but no compression. On a wagon at the minute en route to the garage that replaced the belt. Fingers crossed.
Good luck and let us know what comes out of it.
903 yes its safewhat was changed last time was the water pump and tensioner done
Not beyond the relm of possibility that the pump could have failed taking the belt
Best off posting in the GP sectionCould possibly be camshaft sensor at a guess?
Ill check the sections next time, wasnt sure what section I was even posting in, the thread was spot on for my original query. Thanks.
Turned out to be this little thing. Caused belt to jump.
No idea how it got in or where it came from.
All sorted for €60, no damage.
Thanks guys.
Well, thanks for the thread folks.....and now I've a card from the Dealers reminding me to get my timing belt changed or, if my 500 Lounge 1.2 doesn't have one (i.e. has a chain instead), offering a free vehicle check.Glad it's all sorted![]()
You've answered that one for me.....clearly, from the thread I've a non interference cam belt model.
The current consensus view is that the 69HP 1.2 FIRE used in the 500 is an interference engine and does NOT have a fail safe cambelt.
Oh Dear! sounds expensive......but thanks for the quick responseThinking has moved on since this thread was started.

I would strongly advise obtaining the correct locking tools before attempting to change one yourself.
