You'll be telling me you've got the heating on next
Always have M&S tyres on the Panda 4x4
On this topic... apparently we're in for the "worst winter in decades" - so considering winter tyres for the first time. I'm wondering, do I actually NEED steel wheels to go with them, or are they just a nice to have ?
Is there any reason I can't just use my OEM alloys with the correct profile winter tyres, and then have my existing summer tyres refitted ~March ?

do you really want your alloys bashing and grazing curbs from slipping on ice or snow?
but on the otherhand, does your insurance company class changeing to steelies as an upgrade?
im on steels anyhow and needed new tyres so winters seemed to be a perfect choice for the time of year. will be fitting the first 2 this week sometime. im looking to get some alloys in jan so will put summers on them
If you only have one set of wheels, you have to endure the changeover twice a year. Then either you store the spare set, or pay the tyre company to store them for you. With a spare set of wheels, you can swap them yourself whenever you please. More convenient, unless you don't have the space. Spare steels are usually cheaper than spare alloys.
